Spyderco is Unstoppable

Actually H1 Is a good choice with extreme toughness and good edge holding ability. Ferro-nitride is technically in the ceramic family and has the ability to sharpen to the molecule similar to glass. It will preform very well in an organic environment. There is still a US made version planned...Take Care...Ed

I certainly appreciate the response Mr. Schempp!

Agreed!!!!

What happened to 3v? I missed something apparently. I read all the stuff about nitrogen hardening and whatnot. I really was hoping for a very high performance fixed blade, in light of the very high performance folders that I love so much!

H1 seems enigmatic in this application.

Hold your horses, this isn't the competition chopper, yet. That one is still in the works and according to Ed Schempp it will be made from a basic carbon steel with a very fancy custom heattreat. Something really special he's cooked up for that one. If I recall correctly (but I am a bit fuzzy here) it's gonna be bainited 52100. Go to the Spyderco forum and do a search, it will blow your brains when you read it :D     . Ed Schempp said that it will be INSANELY tough. God it's worse than waiting for x-mas :).

But I think it is rather telling that you mistook the outdoor utility camp knife for the competition chopper :D. It's kind of like mistaking a commuter car for a Formular 1 sled. Must be one hell of a commuter car :).

By the way, H1 is actually a pretty good choice for a stainless chopper. Not so much because it is workhardening, but because the fine graininess and lack of carbides will make it very tough steel.

These are the first pictures I have seen of the Superhawk and, damn, they look sweet.

Ed Schempp Chopper (why the hell is this H1?!)

Wow so apparently this is not the chopper at all? That near-khuk type blade shape fooled me. I'm re-excited for the competition chopper again!:p

I think Ed Schempp called this the "camp utility knife" :D. That this isn't the chopper is evident already from the length. This one is only 7" (as you can see) the competition chopper will be, I believe, the full regulation 10".

Seven inches is a fine length for chopping, especially with the downward angled blade and the forward weight. I'd love to see a US model in 52100 and micarta. I'd buy it without asking questions.

The Citadel looks mighty good! I wish yellow handles (easy to find in the woods) was a standard option.

Well, I for one, hope that the small fly gets made, I am a fan of smaller balis, such as the BM, Morpho. It appears there is a safety on the citadel but not the samaritain?

IIRC, the Samaritan was made to police/military spec, which mandated a safety. The Samaritan's safety is the little grey button you see on the scale. The scale sliding is what opens the blade, not the button. Depressing the button allows the scale to move. It looks better than many auto safety designs I've seen.

Any word on when the dive knife is going to be availabe? I've got a trip planned in mid-April and would love to get my hands on one before then.

Well, my point was that 7" is not what you would want when in a competion against other guys who wield 10" knives because the regulation allows up to 10".
