Spyderco Lynx!

I'm in for the G-10 with the PUGS even if it is much more expensive. The PUGS are what draw you in a first glance! I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hey guys

If I can get the digital camera working right I'll post pictures of #3 sometime this week. I can get most of the knife in focus and there is a glare off the blade. No glare but knife too dark to see details.

Must be the nut holding the camera.

Really a sweet knife. Can’t wait for the production one to come out. If what Tim and I were talking about the G-10 happens I might just have to get several and skip lunch for a few days.

OK as far as cost goes. Lets just say someone offered almost 2X more than I paid.

I still have the knife. To me it’s worth more than that, but YMMV. It’s only worth what the next person is willing to pay.

Hey Tim. Just found out the name "Lynx", has a prior usage by another company. Soooo, I guess we need a new "cool" name.

Jeffj. Peter is waiting for your call. He's back in the office Tuesday.

Thanks Sal...I will take care of it first thing Monday morning.

As far as names, how about Wildcat or Bobcat?

Panther? Hmmm...old BM model.

Cougar?

Catamount?

Mountain Lion?

Jeff

Nice looking knife, will like to add to my collection when its out. For a name "Panther"?

How about Leopard? A powerful, strong, elegant cat... Or maybe Cheetah, the fastest terrestrial animal in the World... Both are excellent hunters, which has to do with one of the blade's intended purposes.

I agree with Dennis. G10 without pugs and ATS-34 would be a liveable compromise and VG-10 would be better (for us fanatics). BG-42 would be great but I take it that it is very expensive stuff.

Just my 20 Yen.

Some other more obscure possibilities along the feline line:

Serval - African lynx

Caracal - African desert lynx

Iriomote - Asian leopard

If you're thinking about "cat" names, go to:

Nice scientific site with species grouped by geographic regions, including names in foreign languages.

I like the sound of Caracal.

Regarding materials: How about ATS-34 (or VG-10) and Micarta? The nested compression lock uses dual steel liners, so there should be no problems under hard use and in harsh conditions.

I would suggest Rag Micarta, but I hear it is nearly impossible to get. How about a colour other than black -- "Antique Ivory" Micarta for example.

Before making wish lists on variations, I would like to get one just as it is!

I too would like it "as is," but the ugly truth is that the original Lynx concept with BG-42 and milled G10 scales isn't even on the table as a possibility for production. Sal said that FRN and ATS-34 is most likely, so we are making suggestions for possible compromises that would let us avoid FRN -- like plain G10 scales or Micarta.

I understand the rational behind using FRN. It would probably be better suited for the masses. It would probably sell better.

Being a knifeknut I of course would like to see a more upscale version. G-10 at least.

What would the likely suggested retail price for the knife left as is?

Hi Dennis, tough question. Let's hypothesize for a few moments;

The pugs milled into G10 are a combination of Vince's extraordinary machining skills and the precision ground .062 carbide cutters. G10 is very abrasive resistant and these cutters don't last long + they are very expensive. Machining time + cutters alone could be $100 per knife on the retail level, not counting the knife. Wanna talk more?

Done in FRN, there is additional mold costs (also expensive) but NO additional parts cost.

Tim's original plan for this design was in FRN.

sal

Hi Sal,

Thanks for clarifying the original intent behind the Lynx design. Then G10 was only used to make the concept knives because FRN molds are an expensive step only to be taken just prior to production.

If we are doomed to FRN

, then is FRN and BG-42 a possibility?

Thanks Sal. That really sheds some light on the situation. With costs like that its no wonder FRN seems the way to go. As nice as it would be the masses probably couldn't appreciate it. We all want this knife to be a huge success.

I will predict that any way you go it will undoubtedly be a winner.
