Oh well, I didn't want the Manix 2 anyway (the ORIGINAL Manix kicks butt!).

Yeah, funny how people are trying to design new and tougher locks when one of the oldest and most-used may well be the strongest and most reliable of them all.

They should have named the Manix 2 something different because so many people like you have an attachment to the original and don't see the sequel as an improvement.

You're right, it should have been called something else.
Unnecessarily excessive (and ugly) jimping, no screws at the "butt" end of the knife to hold it together, shoddy construction in the ones I've examined=nowhere as good as the original.:thumbdn:

But, but, it's NEWER, that MUST mean it's better...:D

I never owned a Manix (for some reason ) so I can't comment on how they compare but I like the Manix 2. I'll agree with you on the jimping. ;)

Well at least theoretically the back-lock doesn't self-adjust for wear, right? It just wears out. I guess what matters is how quickly it wears out. It's a tried and true design, for sure.

If they dropped the jimping, had some sort of screws at the "butt" end, and put a stop-pin at the front (like the P'kal), I'd likely get one, especially in the pretty blue colour.:)

I'll agree on the adjusting for wear; that's not a bad thing.:)
The back-lock just screems ongoing reliability though, and this is coming from someone with a titanium frame-lock addiction.
Those back-locks just seem to keep going no matter what, as long as they're built right.

I can understand the tips breaking (both look thinner then the AL), But I am surprised with the M2. On the axis lock: Ankerson if you could have a look at the stop pin of the Axis. It could have been dented? Mine can be rotated without disassembling the knife. Could you have look if it is dented?

Just looked at my axis. A flat spot could have been caused by on the bar that moves onto the blade. That can be rotated to I think?

Yep that was it, I turned the stop pin and the up and down play is almost gone.

So I dented the stop pin.... ROFL

Do any really like the Manix? I was set to order one on the basis of many encouraging comments and now I am going for the BM 940. I see few complaints about it and I like the looks of the tanto blade.

Cool thanks. I have a slow connection and by the time I edited you answered already. Thanks!

Well here is what is left of the Manix 2, I gave it a chance and tightened up the screws and hit it a few more times...

Complete catastrophic failure of the lock, as in the lock is broken now completely...

Ankerson. It seems the cage broke? did the knife close on your hand or is it still locked?

It failed a few more times then it jammed open.

Do you have any pictures of it opened up?

I haven't taken it apart. ;)

So in the end the Benchmade Griptillian is a hard use folder as long as you don't pry with it.

The Spyderco Manix 2 is not a hard use knife, more like medium duty at best.
