Hey Everyone this is my first post on the forums so please tell me if I'm doing anything wrong....
I need a recommendation on my next EDC knife I narrowed it to 2 knives but I cant decide. I will not tolerate any bladeplay. I will go up to $150 give or take $10. So should I get the Spyderco Military or Benchmade Griptilian?

Thanks.

If you are paying anywhere near $150 for a Griptilian, you are being taken advantage of.

Go for the military! There is a lot to find (por's and cons) about both knives on the forum.
I own a orange S30V military and I am more the happy with it!
Goodluck with your search!

No I would pay $93 shipped but I need a new EDC. But I was saying that my price range would be up to $150 but thanks for replying!

I carry a Mini-Grip, for it is under 3" blade length which in my state wont raise any eyebrows. I love my mini for the grip is solid, fits decent, and the axis lock is one of the nicest and smoothest I have used! BM does a good job on 154CM, it is an easy steel to sharpen. I got lucky and scored a limited run on an S30V and an M390 version. The M390 is my favorite EDC. I am yet to sharpen it and used it consistently throughout the day. The full size grip is also excellent. I am slowly becoming a spyderco fan and look to get a para-mil 2. The Military is just too long of a blade in my state to carry. The cops are very up tight about anything over 3" around here so instead of losing a blade to the police. I opted for the under 3" It does everything I need, isnt too big in the pocket, weight is excellent (Not too heavy), clip is ideal, constructed perfect for my type of everyday use. I have tried numerous other blades and I keep coming back to the mini. As I said I want a Para-Mil 2 also, spyderco slice excellent!! And I like the pointy tip better for it is great for getting inbetween zip ties. the PM2 will also do finer work better IMO. You just have to like the hole design instead of the thumb stud. I have an tenacious and that I use alot. and it works well...bigger, heavier, and bulkier but still a great knife!

The Griptilian fills the hand more, which is nice, but it also is a little thicker in the pocket. I own about 10 Militaries, and 2 Griptilians, so that tells you something. But they are both fine knives, and what constitutes "better" is purely subjective.

I prefer the Griptilian. I like that they are offered in so many colors that are readily available. Orange Spyderco military knives are harder to find and more expensive than a colored Griptilian. I wanted a blue handle knife so the Griptilian was the choice for me. I also prefer thumb studs over the holes. I also prefer the axis lock of Benchmade. My mini griptilian has no blade play. Even though the military spyderco models are US made, I like that all Benchmades are now US made and I don't have to check each model of knife for production location before I buy. Benchmade and Spyderco have the Griptilian and Delica/Endura plastic handle models that come in nice colors. I wish both companies would offer more color options that are not limited production for their knives with other handle materials.

I wouldn't pay $93 shipped for a Griptilian either:eek:. I haven't owned a military, but that's because I have wanted other knives.

I think it's only fair to say that I'm an axis lock fanatic as well.

Well, if you live in the USA you can pick up a Military for a good price, I would go for it above the Grip. If you are outside of the USA you can pay $150 for a Grip easily due to import tax etc at a retailer.

I carry the BM 551 plain edge griptilian and love it. I find the pointy tip to be more useful than the sheepsfoot design. Haven't had any experience w/ the Military but I think it is a much bigger knife. I would think the PM2 would be more comparable size wise.

The Paramilitary 2 would be a much better comparison size-wise. Between a Grip and the Para2, I'd easily pick the Para2. The Military is a big knife, possibly too big for EDC depending on your local laws.

I think the paramilitary 2 is more in the same region as the benchmade. The spyderco will have a better blade steel than the benchmade and will probably slice better, but the benchmade's blade profile will have a stronger tip. I also think that the spyderco carries easier as well because the handle profile is narrower. It really depends on what is more important to you.

Yep. I've owned the Military and the Ritter Grip which is actually closer to each other in performance with steels both being S30V. That said I like the military better. It's flatter in the pocket and the edge geometry with it's continuous sweeping curve performs better. I also prefer holes to studs. Though, both were pretty awesome knives and I liked both. The military just edges it out.

Ha! I'm punny today.:D

I have a mini Grip and have never had any blade play what-so ever, everyone talked about how addictive the axis lock is and I have found that to be true as well, truly a great lock and fun to use as well. I've never handled a Military but they seem to be great knife as well. Don't think you can go wrong either way to be honest, but th above comments are tight you can find a grip for a lot cheaper ans I don't think you'd be disappointed. Of course everyones different, if you just like the look of the military more,go for it.

I have both knives personally. If I had to choose one knife to take with me everyday the Griptilian would be left on the table.

I own both. I carry my cabelas griptilian at work because it's beefier and quicker to open and close. But on the weekends and any other time, the griptilian gets all my pocket time. You can't go wrong with either. What will the knife be used for? Work, outdoors, fishing, hunting, boating?

word of advice is make sure you want a 4" blade and over 5" handle before you put in the order. Back when I was choosing between Paramilitary and Military a few years ago, I liked the Paramilitary much better after handling both for awhile and trying them in pocket - wanted the smallest one that was big enough and loved the Compression lock.

Different place and do different things now - I'd pick the Military, but it's still larger than most really people want and you need to check them out in person.
