Spyderco Military vs Benchmade Griptilian

Griptilian and Military are in different price category. So comparison in-between is not quite fair.
Griptilian gets mentioned very ofter because it is sort of basic, practical and cheap. It is OK, good quality knife, but the handle is a bit too beefy for me - not that comfortable to carry every day. And if the money are not the major factor for you, why not take something nicer?
Military was getting mentioned every time because of the hype - in my opinion. Now it has moved more towards Para 2 and for good reason I believe. I have bought Military a few years ago (in fact two of them: one with S90V and another with D2 on the blade) - and sold them away immediately. A good quality knife - just not my type.
So if choosing a knife for EDC between Grip and Mili - I would pick neither. There are so many nicer options around - like very practical FFG Delica or Endura, Mini-Griptilian, Bone Collector series. The same Para 2 already mentioned above - which has in my opinion much better handle-blade size and ratio compared to Military...

Yep, the conparison is not quite fair. Grip vs Endura/Delica would make more sense, or Military vs BM 710.

As is, if I got to pick a Grip or Military for free, I'd go with the Military without question. If I had to buy one, I'd probably pick the Grip. The Grip is all anyone really needs, but the Military is a better knife in almost every way. The main (perhaps only) benifits of the BM are the Axis lock and tip-up carry.

If you are looking at a Griptillian already, then I would take a look at the large Benchmade Bone Collector folder. Close in shape to the Grip, but full liners, and sculpted G-10 handle scales. One major complaint about the Grip is that it feels cheap with the handle material it has. You also get D2 with the BC and Benchmade knows it's way around D2.

With all that said, I would up my budget and go for the titanium framelock Military. It is worth it!!

I prefer the Military to the Griptilian, I don't really like the hollow plastic feel of it, but I do like playing with the axis lock. I also prefer the Para 2, to both though, the compression lock can be held down and you can wrist flick the knife open and closed one handed just like the axis lock. its also closer to the griptilian size.

I like the Military over the Grip. Personally I don't like the Grip. What about getting a a BM 950 Rift (Discontinued)? The Rift has a great blade/handle ratio.

The Paramilitary 2 would be a much better comparison size-wise. Between a Grip and the Para2, I'd easily pick the Para2. The Military is a big knife, possibly too big for EDC depending on your local laws.
+1
I also consider Para2 is a better choice, but out of these two I would go with Milly

The Griptilian fills the hand more, which is nice, but it also is a little thicker in the pocket.

Actually, for this reason I'd go with the grip. I've never had a Spyderco feel right in my hand. *shrug* That being said, try and hold both knives first. Military is probably a 'better' knife (for a higher cost) but it might not fit you well.

Military

I've had the Pardue and Ritter large grips and sold both of them. Try and open one of those light bulb handled grips w/o the pocket clip.

Ritter Grip is the way to go if you're going to get a Grip in that price range. I haven't picked up a mili because I just don't like how massively long the handle is for me. I've got medium size hands, and it just feels too long for me. It's a great knife, but not for me. The Ritter Grip is a great performer; it outperformed my Stag Arms Manix 2, and that's a great knife too. I'd say pick the one that appeals to you the most. If you don't LOVE the looks, it's not going to be your favorite knife ever, which every new knife should. That being said, until I get a custom grip for my Ritter Grip, it has no chance of displacing my Gun Hammer Bowie as my EDC.

I couldn't agree more with the first part of your reply, but bringing the GH-2 into the equation is just not fair! That bad boy has been on my wishlist since forever :-p

Both those knives are sufficiently different as to put them in separate categories, me thinks. The Military carries very well and is slim and very well built. The Grip is very fast to open and close and has the Axis lock as a major plus. One is certainly not 'better' than the other, but FWIW, my edc is a Ritter Grip.

I own both the para 2 and BM Grip. I have no preference between them at all. Both are wonderful knives.

Military all the way. Axis lock is fun but love the G10, size and thinness of the Millie. Para 2 even better fit for me personally.

Spyderco Military over the Grip any day. See also the Paramilitary 2. Both over the Grip hands down. Between these knives the two Spydercos are steaks and the Griptillian is a cold cut.

Ritter Grip is definitely the way to go if you're going to go for a Griptilian. The Griptilian and Military aren't even really in the same category. The Military is a much larger knife (the other reason I haven't gotten one; it's too large for legal carry here).

I see you posted here after hearing about BF in tacoma world, i am personally hoping to get a spyderco sometime, Then i will decide if I like it better than my Benchmade barrage

That's a hard question to answer. I like both. But I prefer the Grip. I feel comfortable thumping on the Benchmade Grip better. Not sure why. Just my 2c.

depends if u want a knife to abuse or for fine cutting tasks. military is the best slicer on the market, but will not stand up to as much abuse as the grip.
