Spyderco Native a No-Go at Wal*Mart?

I stopped by Wal*Mart tonight and saw there was no price on the Spyderco Native. I asked the sales guy and he said that Wal*Mart is discontinuing the knife. "This store or Wal*Mart nationwide?" I asked.

"I think nationwide," he said.

It was too bad because I wanted to pick another one up. He offered to look, but couldn't find any. "We sometimes have one or two left after we remove it from the board," he said. Just then he found one and waved it above the counter. I checked it out and bought it, but he said that's the last one that store had and that they're not getting any more.

I don't always believe guys at one store, so I wonder if someone else could check it out. The board still had the picture, but the number (60) was taped up as well as the name. "Discontinued Item" the tag announced. If so, I guess I'm lucky to find this one for forty bucks.

Spyderco Native, gone from Wal*Mart?

I think it was the last 100% USA made KNIFE that Wal Mart carried. If the chain is dropping the Native, I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, that was the best value in the knife case. On the other hand, it will free up a ton of manufacturing capacity in the Golden plant for other projects.

Edit to add: I just checked walmart.com and the Native is no longer listed, just 5 variations of Delica.

They still carry the Buck 110, right? If not, then it just might have been the last.

I always thought they only sold these online. On the website, it says, "Online item only." My local wal-mart didn't carry Spydercos; they had to be ordered online, although they could be delivered to the store.

I've never much cared for Spyderco products, but that was one of the best values in the knife world, and now it's gone.

Let's hope Wal-Mart starts carrying the Kershaw Skyline.

And yes, they carry the 110 and the 119.

Not all the stores stocked them, only about a third of them. Those with the highest knife sales as I understand it.

I wasn't sure all the Buck 110s were still made in the USA, as I've seen a lot of Bucks stamped China lately.

I asked last week at my local Wal-Mart if they had any Spydercos behind the counter. The response was "Spider what?". All they had were Chinese knives (not even decent ones) and a 110.

As far as I know the 110 is made/assembled/etc all in the USA. The only exception would be if you get custom handle materials, like Sambar Stag from India, Water Buffalo from Asia/Africa, or the like, then those materials would obviously be foreign.

All Buck 110's are USA made. All the Chinese Bucks are models that are exclusively made overseas. Walmart also sells Nighthawks and 105's that are American made as well.

My local Wal-Mart doesn't have anything of value in the knife case either. Unfortunately, this isn't exactly "knife country," let alone working man's country.

Most of the Kershaws are USA made, too. Wal-Mart used to carry the Chinese-made Vapors, but now carry the American-made Storms.

Sucks to hear that the Native is going the way of the Dodo. :(

the Native 4 is flat ground VG-10 with CF handle, maybe the Native and Native III are going away entirely.

I didn't get my Native at Wal-Mart, so I sort of doubt it is being discontinued. Have you thought of bringing this over to the Spyderco Forum? I agree that the loss of this knife at this value point is troubling.

Was in a Nashville WalMart where I purchased my Native about 2 years ago, no longer carried and did not see a place for it on there knife board. It is a shame, the WallyWorld Native was probably the #1 recommended knife for someone just out looking for a decent budget priced edc. Sure, it's still out there and available, but it sure was nice to walk in to a WalMart and see something 100% US made. At least the stores in our area continue to carry several models of US produced Kershaws.

Wal-Marts can vary a great deal, 2 of my nearest ones both have knife counters and carry the Native, but a new on that opened about 20 miles away has no counter, just knives in clamshell packs and about half the selection of the other 2 and no Natives. :(
