My wally has several Spydies including the Native(so far)and a whole bunch of different Kershaws.Of course the Buck 110,119,and several u.s and china made Buck folders.Actually quite a large and nice display. This is in Burleson,Texas. We love our Knives and Guns down here and don't care much for politically correct B.S.Walmart will keep in stock what sells good.

I can remember years ago going to the same Walmart(Linden,NJ) & spending a long time in the guns & hunting dept....those days have been long gone:(
Now there's paintball guns in their place.

Heck, I can remember going into K-Mart to check out guns, BB guns and accessories. It's weird how things have changed.

OK, The Wal Mart in Manassas Virginia Has four, I bought one, it was marked Item 60, for just under 40 bucks. I asked the guy behind the counter about if the knife was going to be discontinued, but he did not know enough English to understand what I tried to ask. Nice guy though.

You guys might remember that it could be Spyderco that's closing this deal. Some manufacturers in this day and age (like the Fenix flashlight company) place price restrictions on retailers, and of course these restrictions are in the best interests of the retailers, not the customer.

If anyone learns anything, I'd like to hear just why it's a goner.

You mean we all might be spouting off without knowing the whole story? Does that sort of thing go on around here? ;)

I stopped by the Walmart near me last night and they had it there. I didn't buy it though.

I returned to the Walmart today, was told they are not aware of it being discontinued.

I went by two Walmarts close by and both of them still have the Natives and have not heard of their stores discontinuing carrying them.

Screw Wal-Mart! I will never spend another dime in their stores. They have stabbed us all in the back by nuzzling up to freedom's biggest enemy, Mayor Bloomberg.

J.P. Suarez, the chief compliance officer for Wal-Mart Stores Inc., appeared with outspoken gun control advocate Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York to announce the changes at a gathering of Bloomberg's group Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

Emperor Bloomberg has never seen a gun or a knife he didn't want to ban, and he'll have anyone who dares carry one arrested and charged with a felony. Nobody who values their rights to carry a pocket knife or have a firearm should ever support Wal-Mart again. Perhaps the Native was too "dangerous" looking for Bloomberg to approve of, and Wal-Mart dropped it. Certainly anyone caught carrying a Native in NYC will be arrested and treated as a criminal.

Big deal....China-Mart may drop the Native.... I've never bought a knife at Walmart.

The Native is one of Spyderco's biggest selling knives. It is not being discontinued just 'cause Walmart may not sell it.

They can be purchased in many other places.

True, TRGraham, true. It is nice to be able to purchase one for thirty dollars less than anywhere else though.

Who said Spyderco was discontinuing the Native?

The Native may indeed be one of the big sellers for Spyderco. But apparently not big enough for Walmart. According to Sal, Walmart is downsizing the display card, and the Native was one to be cut from the lineup. Because of poor sales.

So the change has everything to do with money. Who'da thunk?

Not that your post, or my reply is too much on topic. But this doesn't make sense. NY makes things difficult for Walmart, such that they have to kowtow to the likes of Bloomberg to basically stay in business. So Walmart must be punished for government overreach?

Bummppo, as you described in one of your posts you were one of the lucky ones who picked up a Native at Wal-Mart for $39.98 plus tax. But it's not $30 more everywhere else. As posted above we have an online coupon for the Native that brings the price down to within $3 (and change) of Wal-Mart's price.

Thanks,

Wally World is downsizing the Sporting Goods dept all around town. The 'counters', with a register, are totally gone from several - and knives are blister packed in a locked rack display, making you have to 'catch' an associate to open it. Oddly, 'Academy Sports/Outdoors' now has their bp-ed knives mostly behind their gun/fishing counter - too much pilfering. Also, they now 'walk' your knife purchases up to the 'customer service' checkout - like gun/ammo purchases - trusting, huh?

Wally World may just say goodbye to anything they can't hang on a hook - even if it is in a locked display.

Around here, at least, you have to catch an associate for help in any department. And there's nobody working the knife counter half the time anyway, so locked rack vs. unmanned counter--six of one...

Wally World has been upping their game here, locally; at least in terms of their outdoors department. Previously, I thought for sure they were closing the store down here, because it looked like a battle ground with all the empty aisles and lots of mess
Yes, I did have to find & ask an associate to come over to the sporting goods section

I've been keeping my eye out for the longest time for their version of the Native, so I could inspect it. Marked item #60, same as Buumpo's report.
I saw the Native there finally, listed for $39 and change. I purchased it, and it rang up as $30(!) flat. I asked for two more, but he only had one more, which came home with me, as well.

Great knife at a ridiculously low price. Sad to see it go!
(Sorry I didn't read through the entire thread, just wanted to report the super-low price I came across, and hopefully you can too, before inventory dries up!)

Just saw PV29's post.. very sad to see the state of affairs.. WalMart is not really known for stellar business ethics, but it always hurts to be exposed to the actual specifics, which are always important. Thanks for the heads-up & info-sharing!
