Spyderco Native a No-Go at Wal*Mart?

Probably not PC to carry US made products anymore so they're phasing them out.
I doubt it. Wal-Mart is all about the lowest price possible. It would not surprise me in the least if it had everything to do with wanting to sell all knives at prices under say $30. If you go to the Spyderco Forum and run a search for Sal's explanation of the Tenacious and its raison d'etre, he will explain that it was because of certain retail establishments wanting a lower price point Spyderco. I will bet you start to see the Tenacious in Walmart as the Native
s replacement - solely on the basis of cost. Sad day indeed.

We have the Chive, Leek, Storm, and Tanto Blur placed at Wal-Mart. All are Made in the USA Kershaw products.

Well, if anyone wants a Native, I suggest you find a Wal*Mart and see if they have any remaining ones. Perhaps they can still be ordered and shipped to one near you. I didn't really intend to buy one when I went to the knife counter, but when they said they had one left, I took it. If they'd had two, I probably would have bought both.

Wow, this is shocking....i bought this knife about two months ago after some great reviews posted on this forum. i love the Native and already have two more and several other Spyderco knives. Thank GOD i got one in time...but i am sad to see Wal-mart discontinuing a great American made knife.

I was in my local WalMart (Denver area) Monday, and they still had the Native on display. I hadn't read this then, so I didn't ask, but there was no indication that they were discontinuing it.

Back in stock on the website.

*Edit* Would not let me order it though, said it was unavailable.

Buck's 503 Prince is also sold there, along with the 110, 119, and 655 - all US-made - except for any sheath included - they are eaither from the PRC or Mexico. The 503 is a small dress-up version of the 110.

Gotta go to Wally World... to get a back-up Native!

Guys, the Native is not only available at Wal-Mart. Several Reputable online outlets carry it!

I found another local store with five knives remaining. After that, no more. You know, it could be Spyderco who's behind Wal*Mart no longer selling the Native. With the falling U.S. dollar, it takes more dollars to buy premium grade steels. Still, I saw a Buck folder that was going for $27.

My nearest WM had Natives today, but the 12 year old working the knife counter had no idea about them being dropped or not.

i've called at least 15+ walmarts in the houston locations and none of them carry or even heard of spyderco :(. all the local knife stores sell them for around $70

Why is it that every Walmart I have been has the 110 at $35?

I was at WalMart in Linden,NJ today.I never seen a Native there,as long as I've been going there(7-8yrs).

It's not a super walmart. All that was there today were china Bucks,Kershaw's Storm I&II, & Winchester knives....please tell me Winchester knives aren't made in China:eek::(

I am in Manasas virginia this week, a Wal-Mart is across the street from my hotel. I will ask about the Native over there and give a report.

If they are discontinuing them it's probably because of low sales. I blame their poor business strategy of stocking only a few retail stores with them.

I don't remember seeing the Spyderco Byrd knives on walmart.com before. How long have they been there?

If they are planning to stop carrying the Native, I'll bet that's why. Byrds are cheaper, and probably easier to get enough of to put in more stores.

They are, and they're crap. At least that $13 stockman is.

Was at mt local wal mart a short while ago. They still have the Native and its price on the board in the knife case, with no signs its been discontinued. There was nobody working the counter to ask, though.

Also saw Buck 110 for $26 and change.
