Always thought Spydercos were ugly. Still, I bought a Delica years ago because it was so highly recommended. It fit my hand beautifully. It was my EDC until I moved up the corporate ladder and had the money and desire for something more gentlemanly. Bought the Osborne designed Benchmades and have carried that for a couple of years and gave away my Delica.

Two months later I buy a Delica again. Not only that, I bought a Salt because it reminds me of a Delica. They're still butt ugly but I can't resist them.

Damn you Spyderco, you're like the ugly girl who's a really good lay. I'm ashamed to be seen with you but I can't seem to keep my hands off of you.

That's one nasty compliment man.

I think I used to date that girl. Married a pretty one whom I can't keep my hands off. Still love spydies but eying CRK. ;)

Funny stuff. Spydercos are not the most beautiful knives in the world, but what they lack in looks, they make op with fit, function and craftsmanship. Kind of like the ugly girl with "talents." :)

Hi Grapevine.

Thanx much.....I think ;)

While I realize that most people purchase most products by their appearance, and most knives, as well as other products are designed by very good artists and designers to have an attractive appearance, it has never been our way.

We extend most of our efforts (safe, reliable high-perforfmance) to be the knife in your pocket, not the one in your showcase.

Certainly we do not mind if you oooh and aaahh over the "pretty" ones. It's not a marriage. Think of our knives as a "worker", a "tool". That way your other "lovers" won't take offense. :)

Thanx again for the post, appreciate.

I love you man.
I love your knives and always will. Any infidelity in terms of knives only makes me appreciate your all the more! I do not use this same philosophy in my marriage. :)

Wow. I actually picked up my first (and most of the rest) of my Spydercos because I really liked how they looked.
The style of their knives really beats the boring looks of the more "traditional" knives that never did much for me.

LOL
Then again, a lot of people like the look of Spydercos.

When I bought my Endura back in '91 I bought it because it was "cool" and it had all these features like the hole and the pocket clip which were considered "new" back then. Maybe not the prettiest, but they definitely have a beauty of their own.

Spyderknut, what have you been drinking? :D Sounds like you caught the happy love train.

I still find them somewhat ugly, but as a bloke who uses his knives all day, every day, I always find one in my pocket. Many knives from many fine manufacturers have passed my hands, I only keep the ones that I will use, and not afraid to use hard. Thus I have more Spyderco's than any other brand in my collection.
I am still kicking myself that I missed the sprint run of ZDP Bgy Caly. Jnr, the Grey one I own is still my most used knife - an amazingly perfect piece of cuttlery.

I bought my first spyderco yesterday and i had been thinking about it long and hard because to me they seemed so ugly...But i finally saw one that caugfht my eye, the SS delica. I must say that this knife is one of the most solid feeling knives i own. Not one bit of movement in the blade, perfect opening and great feeling in the hand. Although not the prettiest knives definitley a maker of very high quality knives.

I started collecting knives with CRKT until I bought my first Spydie, a SaltI/PE :D . Then I discovered that CRKT doesn't even come close to Spyderco in terms of ergonomics and quality. Well, maybe the D.O.G and P.A.L. IMO the only 2 good knives CRKT made :( , but still not close to Spyderco.

CRKT has one really good one, the M1 Lightfoot I think it's called. You can really get a good hold on it. But I had one of those nifty looking Wasps, and it was horrible. It varies a lot with CRKT.

After seeing someone post a Spyderco page from an old Smoky Mountain catalog, I remembered thinking they were ugly. But since then I have seen a lot of Spydercos and thought they looked really good. It only takes one Delica to make you change your mind about how a knife should be shaped. Doing things "the right way" just can't be too ugly in my opinion, and there are a lot of things about the Delica and Endura designs that make too much sense to only think about in terms of appearance. If I think the right way for anything looks ugly, I need to rethink my opinion on ugly.

How could anyone call a Lum Chinese ugly with it's perfectly sweeping top curve, or a Herbst with it's understated elegance, or a Civilian with it's delicately hooked tip? These are but a few examples of works of art with outstanding functionality. Spyderco makes the most diverse product line of all major manufacturers and there is a beauty there for whomever has the desire to seek it.

Note: I am in no way affiliated with Spyderco other than as an avid purchaser of their products. (Sal, unmarked 50 's please.) :D
