Yeah, "composite steel featuring CPM 154 and CPM s90V" is news to me.

Cool! I'm a little concerned about the low number though, because I'd like to actually get one direct from a dealer.

300 you say?

Interesting. Anyone care to explain the benefit of a composite like this? Reduced cost?

There has been quite a bit of discussion, and debate, about this on the Spyderco website forum. I haven't read it all very closely so I'm not really clear why it was done. I think partly to see how it would work, partly because grinding CPM154 may be a bit easier than a whole S90V blade (maybe less expensive in the long run?), CPM154 may be more amenable to heat treat along side S90V, and CPM154 is harder to scratch than 420J if 420J were used.

There will most likely be real runs of sprints with numbers we are more used to. I've heard of this idea and knew some had been made but that's about it. Give it enough time and we will be having discussions like we do about super blue sprints talking about which we prefer, straight S90V or San Mai'ed S90V. It should be nice, finish up well, not scratch as much as 420J ZDP or Super Blue, etc.

I'm looking forward to trying it. :)

I hope the Howe's are up for it. I hope it truly goes very smoothly for them. I've gotten some good deals there .
