Spyderco paramilitary 2 limited edition sprint c81cfpe2

So knowing MSRP is $470, with the normal percentage that most online dealers like KW, HKS, CS knock off of full retail (40-43%), IF they went that low, they'd be about $270. I'd say $350 may be more like it.

No one in this thread is getting one of these, lol.
You might be correct on that, I'm not going to hold my breath for one that's for sure. Too much other cool stuff out that is readily available. Besides, I already have 2 S90V Para 2's.

My guess is right around $300 which creates an issue for me. I'm willing to spend that on a Production folder, let alone a sprint - but from what I'm reading, very few of these will make it to the secondary market (if any) since they're filling all Collector and Premier program orders first, so our "street price" will likely be north of $500 on the secondary market.

I hate to say it, but I'll definitely pass for that price and Spyderco could easily have doubled the order to only 600 pieces (or even gone to 900 pieces) and sold all of the knives without issues while also not leaving some of their customers with no way to purchase other than the few that make it to the secondary market with inflated prices.

What I'm thinking as well.

Maybe they will see how the reaction is to the first run, and then down the road churn out a few more pieces like (off the top of my head) the green, orange, and blue PM2 sprints that are supposed to have more pieces produced in the next year or two. Although I did notice this sentence on HKS: "We do have plans to produce additional products with this steel, just not in the ParaMilitary2 configuration." So then again, maybe not.

Street price of $300+?!

What do you gain over a PM2 S90V other than cool/unique factor?

Is this the first composite blade for Spyderco?

Is the composite blade achieved using braze welding?

Shouldn't a composite blade cost less since you're using less of the expensive S90V for just the cutting edge?

I guess the high price may be attributed to limited quantity and uniqueness?

These will sell for more than $500 easy..they will be more rare than the CF/S90V version and look what those commonly sell for..

That might be to much for a lot of us but there are people on Evilbay with money to burn..

You're assuming that they had enough steel to run off 600, 900 or more. From the thread at SF, it seems like there was very little of this available to Spyderco at this time. Do you really think that Spyderco intends to be "leaving some of their customer with no way to purchase other than the few that make it to the secondary market with inflated prices"? I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that there's a very good reason for a 300-piece run until someone can demonstrate otherwise. The Spyderco people have a whole lot more integrity than that.

Sprints do not get re-issued. Exclusives can be re-ordered, but only by the dealer or distributor that commissioned the exclusive that's not in Spyderco's control.

I think we will see more sprints or otherwise limited production runs of this composite steel if it succeeds, but I would be surprised if they ever become regular production pieces, though you never know.

Thanks mike. I do know that steels like s90v are very tough on machines, so in that sense an s90v cutting edge seems to be the best of both worlds. $470 is a bit ridiculous, however...I would just buy a 20cp on the secondary market for $170 less at that point. Then again, I'm not a collector.

Easy killer. I didn't say anywhere in there that Spyderco intended to do anything, nor did I presume their reasoning behind just making a run of 300 was nefarious in any way. I said that making more than a run of 300 would accomplish the opposite of what is going to happen (and I'm fairly certain that I'm right about what's coming - whining, griping, etc.).

If the reason is a lack of materials, then I question making 300 of these in the first place (or just waiting since the letter Howe's got states that Spyderco plans on releasing other knives in this same steel in the future - just not Para-2s). 300 pieces just seems like a very narrow audience and we've got more whiners on Blade Forums lately (especially about missing sprint/exclusive runs) so it just seems like it could piss off a lot of potential fans of the brand.

I dunno man - I'm no expert, I was just voicing my opinion (not questioning Spyderco's integrity). Like I said, I'll pass on the dog-fight this time and just look for the pretty pics and reviews online. I'm not mad at Spyderco and will continue buying their knives. I'm just a little puzzled by the decision, that's all.

Eh, I wouldn't want one anyway even if there were more to go around. The steel doesn't seem to justify the price, and I'm not too keen on composites even though I have a composite Leek and like using it. It will make a cool collector piece for sure, but I won't be staking out the internets for one.

Now a pure CPM-154 one would be pretty neat.

I managed to snag one, I'd rather keep it but if the market goes crazy for them I might sell it.

FYI they went at full retail. No discounts.

Not everywhere. NG sold three at $293. I actually bought one and then got an email saying they sold two over the phone and one on the internet, but several other internet orders went through and mine was one of the others.
