Spyderco Positron

Really great looking knife. Love the design, the contoured CF, and the wire clip.
Trying not to buy any knives at this time, but I'll have to think about this one.
Much prefer the older tempered wire clips, but I could change that.
The small size may be the only thing that keeps me from buying.
Wish it were just a tad longer.

I'm almost the exact opposite. I love the new wire clip and I prefer knives with blade lengths under 3.25' so this is perfect for me

It's the same clip. They just quit tempering them.
Only shiny silver or black now.
I like the silver, but prefer the tempered look.

This one sounds right up your ally:thumbup:
I may try one just to see, but I have large hands and am thinking it may be a bit small for me.

I've loved Spyderco knives for about 25 years and I've carried one or the other for most of that time. There are some I like and some I don't like so much. Even when I didn't like a particular model very much, I always found Spydercos to be functional and have a combination of very appealing features.

Now to the bottom line....

I'm sorry, guys, but the Positron doesn't appeal to me at all. At least it doesn't based on the published specs. It combines a sub-4" grip area and a lack of a useful choil for extra grip space with a tiny non-functional Spyderhole and a flipper feature that I personally dislike immensely and then it finishes up with the side-flexing wire clip that I also very much dislike. In other words, there are so many deal-breaker features on this knife I cannot believe how much I dislike it.

Not sure on this one. I don't mind the size. I like the fact that the lock is steel on steel (vs steel on Ti on the Southard if I am not mistaken, could be wrong though). I am just still in love with Dominos and have a couple other knives that are way ahead in the queue for me. This seems like a "gentleman's flipper folder". My Dominos cover that use for me.

Pending handling one, this is exactly the kind of direction I like seeing from Spyderco. That is, something different. Making the Spydie hole non-functional and making it flipper only are design elements so that the flipper is as narrow as possible as opposed to say a Domino. Glad they went for an approximate $155 street price. Pending issues, I'm expecting the Positron to be a very nice EDC.

I feel the same way. can't wait to get mine and try it out!

I'll get one. I love CF and knives around 3 inches pair with my larger knives

For some reason I thought it was advertised in CTS 204p.

I have my fingers crossed that by the time it's released it will be something other than S30V - just my personal preference. That knife in M4 or CTS-XHP would be sick.

It's confirmed to be s30v. If it came with M4 it would probably end up as one of my favourite knives

That quality of CF scales on the Positron comes at a price. I'm glad Spyderco chose S30V to keep the costs down. A street price of $154-$170 is pretty good for such quality. Photo by Brad Southard.

"Crafted from solid carbon fiber, the Positron’s twin handle scales are meticulously machined, radiused, and polished to provide an amazingly comfortable grip and a stunning appearance."

when I first heard about it I was very excited, then when I first saw it I loved the blade shape. Handle and wire clip i'm not sure on, also the blade steel was a small issue for me. I like s30v, and many of my knives have it and it works very well, but that is kinda the problem, exchange rate, another kid and an almost realisable dream of having a boat have meant a big limit on how much money I have to spend (in US dollars) and another knife in a steel I already know seems .. boring. Saying that I will probably wait for a few video reviews to surface and make my mind up.

I would have gladly paid just a bit more for different blade steel. Don't get me wrong, I like S30V, but from my experience, I don't think Spyderco's S30V is that great. Just requires a bit more maintenance.

Otherwise I think I'm going to like this knife a lot. I know some don't like the wire pocket clip (like kelpie above) but I don't have a problem with it. I like it on my Manix 2, Bowie, Techno, etc.. the only knife I didn't like it on was the PITS - only because the high polish finish is very prone to scratching and the clip would easily mar the finish.
