Spyderco Reveal 20 Live!

I can’t recall thinking anything negative about the opening of the knife. I couldn’t get over the light weight and the thinness of the blade. It’s definitely not a hard use knife, but that’s not the intent. This is a small, simple and unthreatening knife that I think will excel at slicing. For the price, I don’t think you can go wrong with it.
I guess I'll buy one and just try it out.

Charisma was an instant pre-order for me, I chose gray so I can rit-dye it if the urge arises. Thinking of it as a locking, pocket-clipped alternative to the Victorinox or Case Slim Trapper I often grab when I just want a small/non-intimidating blade on me and it should be an outstanding slicer with that .05" blade stock.

The 15v pm2 is somewhat interesting. No choil redesigns is what I'm looking for - mainly the Manix 2XL and Police.

I kinda like finger choils but am also happy to see any new designs. May even consider a choil less Police 5

I’m digging that UKPK and maybe the Charisma.
I must admit I’ve never understood the point of DLC on a Salt though.
Unless this is the new UKPK Tactical. THAT would make sense.

I always was a big fan of the Chaparral. I am just wondering if this is the first time they are offering it in different steels? Curious minds need to know.

Pretty sure the original Twill CF was S30V (2011-13) and all the rest have been XHP! Being that the model was designed to showcase different scales, using one steel made sense! I’m not keen on the REX Orange G10 (will probably buy one) but the Ivory Damasteel is a must!

100% will buy the ukpk…

Well, I just Preordered.

Ive been wanting a salt ukpk for a while, but didnt want yellow or green.

If I had my wish, spyderco would release the titanuim version again. But thats likely not going to happen.

The milled G10 and magnacut are perfect. Dont really need DLC on magnacut but it looks nice.

The most interesting knives for me a the ones with 8cr steel. I'm not a fan of the steel but the mantras, button locks and Schemp design look awesome. I'd just like a better steel.
The Schempp Retract is 9cr18mov, which is a definite step or two above 8cr. It's comparable to 440C or AUS-10.

9CR18MoV is roughly comparable to 440C.
AUS 10 at the same Rockwell hardness has better edge retention than either when tested side by side cutting manila rope.
IMO the difference is enough to be noticeable in the field if one is really paying attention to it.

The Retract reminds me of the Introvert & Schempp's Khukuri.

I own an Introvert . . .

but I don't own the Khukuri because I never liked its exaggerated stepped (as opposed to flat) blade design . . .

which is also used with Schempp's Barong that I also never purchased.

The Retract isn't a "must buy" for me but at $71.25 MAP, I might buy one, even though it still has a minor step in the blade.

I took a look at the Retract on Spyderco's website yesterday (which BTW is much improved since I last logged on there) before it went OOS but even at an OpFocus price of $56, I'd still have to pay $75 for it because $56 isn't enough for free shipping (you need to spend $150 for that) & Spyderco now also charges for sales taxes too (when did they start doing that?) raising the cost to $75 to me which would be higher than the cost of waiting to buy it from a dealer at $71.25 MAP that offers free shipping for any purchase & does not impose any sales taxes.

Not a big deal dollar-wise but, like I said before, the Retract isn't a "must buy" for me. 🤷

Yeah the opfocus program used to be more beneficial. Some retailers that used to give you a discount when you put a Spyderco in cart are also not doing that anymore.
