Spyderco Sage Goodness

I have a peanut for that. I'm contemplating a wh e6 though!

Ok so the Sage 2 is sold. They keep their price surprisingly well. I had to lose some money in paypal feels but it sold for $9 less than what I picked it up for. I was able to get a Spyderco UKPK, Fenix E15 mini torchlight and a Spyderco Delica with the proceeds!

I just bought a SE Endura 4 and the Sage 3 was calling to me. At first I hated the blue FRN, but now I can't put it down. Its so smooth and I love the lock. I will probably ride with my Matriarch 2 with Emerson opener in my weak side pocket

Just FYI the sage 3 is blue G10. It is my favorite pocket knife and I hate to see it being discontinued.

There are actually two Sage 3 folders with bolt action lock. The original with blue G-10 scales (Model# C123GBL) has been discontinued. Its replacement has Carbon Fiber/G-10 Laminate scales (Model# C123CFBA). The blue G-10 can still be found but the prices are going up!

I am pretty sure he was stating that it was blue "G-10" rather than "FRN" which was posted in the post above his.

My sage 3 cf should arrive soon. The CF helped keep me from buying a sage 1 and 3.

Sal mentioned on the Spyderco forum last week: "There are two locks in queue. Neither are Compression locks."

So, based on Sal's statement Compression Lock will be no sooner than Sage7!

I know they were talking about the Compression Lock, Ball Bearing Lock and Button Lock for the next Sage models back in December 2013 in the thread: With the Sage 3 getting the axe will we see an S5 or is the series dying off?

Here's what the December 2013 Spyderco Byte said verbatim:

What does the future hold for the Sage Series? Well, in addition to continuing to recognize the contributions of other designers, based on popular demand we plan to showcase our own lock innovations, including our patented Compression Lock and Ball Bearing Lock. These locks have definitely stood the test of time and earned their rightful place alongside the other notable mechanisms in the series.

Curious on what the lock on Sage5 and Sage6 are? Button lock and some other exotic lock?

Does anybody have any info on a Sage 5? I've read a lot of the rumors, just wondering if any solid info has come out regarding release date or lock type. Any input is appreciated!

No solid info that I've been able to find. The only thing that we know for sure is that it is not a compression lock. Sal has also said that it is a very difficult design to make so that is why it is taking so long. Take from that what you will. Speculation abounds. Facts are very sparse. I know this though, whatever it is, I'll be picking it up to add to the others.

I don't have the Sage in my collection (don't holler I know, I know). From all the fans how do you think it stacks up against my PM2's and Manix 2's (which have a similar blade style)?

I like the pics of the collections of the various SAGE models.

Sage 5 with peel-ply CF and Compression Lock is coming later this year!

There was so much certainty that the Sage 5 wouldn't have a compression lock.

So much for speculation. ;)

I think Spyderco is just responding to consumer demand.

Hopefully, Button Lock will be next. Eventually, Ball Bearing Lock, PowerLock and may be even a replacement for the discontinued Sage 4 with Back Lock.

Thanks for the updated info. Love the sage series, don't want to see it dropped so a compression looks great.

The compression lock will be the first homage paid to a Glesser designed lock right? Do we think Sal would make more Spydesigned locks in the Sages to come, or continue to highlight other designers? Walker, Reeve, Collins, (Backlock), Glesser.... maybe a Hawk design next? Button lock? I think another Spyderco lock may be visited in the future but I feel like the series was meant to honor other designers.
