According to Spyderco's website, the Sage is an ongoing project which will continually offer new locking mechanisms. Now that the Sage RIL is complete, I would like to pick Sal's brain and find out which lock we can expect next.

I would like to see a G10/compression lock model, hopefully from Golden since they do so well with the Para-Military. Is this possible?

The C123 Sage represents Spyderco’s 30-year pledge to knife crafting and learning to make better knives at every available opportunity. The plan is to offer an ongoing series of Sage Folders with many of the different and ingenious locking devices and mechanisms the knife industry has to offer.

I am looking forward to all the Sage models they could possibly create. I believe someone said that the only version that may not be able to be done is a BBL, which is sad. That was actually one that I was really looking forward to. Supposedy a Mid-Lock design is supposed to happen. I believe Deacon said something about a Bolstered model with a Mid-Lock. I'd love to see a compression lock model as well.

This is just a guess, so don't go taking it too seriously, but I predict that since the Sage series is designed as a tribute to the designs of great knifemakers, we're not going to see Spyderco-designed locks for a while. A logical next step would be a Sage with the Al Mar/McBurnette type of lockback since Spyderco already uses it or a variation of it on so many of their knives. Of course, they also seem to love making stuff that comes straight out of left field, so it's tough to theorize with any confidence.

I believe there was some indication a while back the Mar/McBurnette midlock Sage was next. But I could be wrong on that, it might just be wishful thinking on my part since that's the one I'm most looking forward to. Considering the number of configurations the compression lock has been offered in, no way to tell which will be selected for the Sage, but assuming the series moves forward as planned, I'm sure there will eventually be a compression lock verison. Am equally certain that, if it is built, it will be built by the same maker who has done such an excellent job on the series so far.

And yes, Tony, the ball lock is the only Spyderco designed lock Sal expressed some question as to whether or not it could be fitted into the Sage platform. The "good news" for you might be that I vaguely remember reading there may be a version of the Sage using one of Butch Vallotten's locks somewhere down the road.

Thought it was the mid-lock (backlock).

I doubt it will be Golden made, but we can hope!

Agreed.

The compression lock on the P-Mil is so well executed though, one could only hope they make this happen.

Let's try for some 154CM in the Para and Military. I'll even take it hollow ground. :D

I've had to dump a lot of knives recently, three orange millies, both my d2 millies, my m4 mule, and a couple others. The Sage II is my EDC dress knife, and it's not leaving my pocket any time soon. Unless the RIL Military comes out.

Blasphemy!

Do not utter the words hollow grind and Military in the same sentence!:barf:

Why not make it a chisel grind while you're at it. :p
