Spyderco Sage

Hi Firefox,

I'd like to see it. I'd be happy to send it back to you. We'd like to make the Sage Blackie Collins Bolt Action model ambi. We've got a a few lefties in the group that we try to accomodate whenever possible.

Sure thing. Should I just mark it care of you & use the spyderco mailing address?

Yes please, and thank you!!!

Tracking says the package got to Golden this morning, so if the carrier didn't get lost it should be on Sal's desk by now. :)

I'm really excited for this model. I love the bolt action lock and I'm sure Spyderco will re-engineer it to their high standards.

Sal, I know it's early in the development process, but how strong and thick do you plan on making the bolt?

Kicking this one back to the top to say: Sal, the knives were delivered to Spyderco again today. I hope you get to see them this time. ;)

I received one from, I believe, Firefox (thanx much). It has the large finger hole with an ambi "Bolt action" lock. I haven't received the one from Yab yet. Hopefully Monday.

I was certainly surprised last Wednesday when I got them back from Warranty and Repair with a nice letter explaining that they weren't Spyderco knives so they weren't covered. This time I addressed them to Sal Glesser instead of Spyderco, Inc. Attn. Sal Glesser. Between that and the letter I enclosed (two copies so you'll see one no matter how you open the box), they should get to your hands this time.

Not yet, but I spoke with CS on the humerous exchange. They said they'd get it to me when it arrived.

Thanx much for the effort.

Sal, the USPS tracking number for the last try was 03090330000134427151. USPS tracking says: "Delivered, October 17, 2009, 12:02 pm, GOLDEN, CO 80403", so someone there has it. Better ask the other Sal Glesser. ;)

Hi Yab.

Got it. Thanx much for allof the effort. My apology for the hassle.

Thanx to both of you. We've got what we need to more forward. I'll get them back to you.

Here's a question for Sal: are all the Sage variants going to come with S30V, or might we see some alternative steels as the series progresses?

Hi Raindog,

At this time, the plan is to keep the steel S30V, with the variations being in the lock type and handle materials and style indicitive of the inventors' reference.

There will be some exceptions necessary. Eg: Blackie Collins was a pioneer of FRN, but I don't think that we want to tool up an injection mold for the "Bolt Action" lock version of the Sage.

sal

I don't blame you there. Personally, I think it can be done with a steel backspacer/bolt carrier and be a far superior knife to the FRN Gerber. Glad you finally got the knives, and I'm looking forward to seeing your take on this lock. :)

I think you misread. He said he doesn't want to use FRN, even though the original knife with this lock used that material. Tooling up for a new FRN knife is very expensive. Unless that expense is spread over many thousands of knives, it can make the cost of the model prohibitive. The Sage is not likely to sell in those numbers.

I'm excited about the Bolt-Action Sage. My first knife was a Blackie Collins design and I have a real preference for sliding action locks with the release on the side since they're so often unintentionally perfect lefty knives.

Woohoo, wanted to bring this back up. The Sage is such a good idea and the different locks .......that's just genius.

I'm really looking forward to the mid-lock model and I do hope that it has Micarta like an Al-Mar.
