Spyderco Service

I'm sure they are metric but yeah, I can't imagine finding the proper length, fit, head etc. Sorry man.

1 up on the stock up on Screws on knife made in Taiwan . If Spyderco don't want to give them away like other company do we should be able to buy them . Not every person likes the way the knife comes out of the factory . Some like to loosen or tightening the pivot like me the darn pivot on the Gayle Bradley was so tight I slightly striped it . They sent me a different screw saying its a Taiwan knife we don't carry those screws . Spyderco just get screws so you can service your Taiwan knives . Sending a knife back with no way to get screws is not a service it's bad customer service . Just because the knife is not made in the USA doesn't mean you shouldn't carry parts for it .

I agree with part of this.

Spyderco and Kershaw for example are guilty of this: Manufacturing knives overseas, then not stocking replacement parts that WILL be needed when knives eventually get returned for warranty work. You put the time, effort, and money into producing a knife, but you do not want to spend a pittance on ordering several thousand replacement screws, clips, thumbstuds? You know since they are made in China they are dirt cheap to produce, and even 1 boxful of replacement items would likely last forever at the warranty dept.

But instead you have a company put blame on the foreign manufacturing tolerances, and then delay repair of a warrantied knife. For a $10 Chinese Kershaw I guess it makes sense to replace the whole knife rather than repair it, but for a $250 Southard? No excuse for not having replacement parts on hand in the USA.

Exactly!!! I meant what the heck I'm I supposed to do with a Southard missing 4 of the 6 scale screws?!?

My experience is totally opposite of yours.

I have a Southard that I have sent in 4 weeks ago, and got it back last week. I messed it up pretty badly. One of the frame screws is stripped, one of the pillars is warped from trying to remove the screw that way, a bent washer, and missing ball bearing washer. Talk about voiding the warranty, there's no way I could hide my modifications. My G10 scales are dyed blue and my Ti parts are anodized blue, so I sent my Southard in with $25. 3 weeks later, half expecting a letter telling me that the knife can't be fixed because there aren't any Taiwan made knife parts, but she came in the blue scales and blue titanium slab. She flipped like when I first got her. Spyderco put in a new washer, new set of ball bearing washers, new frame screws, a new pillar, and a sharpened edge. I was quite impressed although I wish they hadn't sharpened my knife for me since it was still sharp when I sent it in.

Well wtf!?! Lol
Did you ever end up hearing from anyone? Charlynn is the warranty/repair person. She handles hundred and hundreds of emails a day from everyone across the planet from what I've read. If she doesn't get back tonyou right away, that would be the reason. Separd, I hope you get your screws back. :D

I called again today and talked to Lisa. She said that Charlynn mailed me out "a bunch" of screws yesterday and that i should get them next week. She also asked if she called me to tell me that. I said no. So she said if i dont get them by the end of next week to call back. I really really hope i do t have to call back :)
I feel bad for Charlynn. I have talked to her many times and she's always been nice and pleasant to talk to. Hopefully she finds someone to help her with all her work. I know all too well how difficult it is to handle an entire operation all by yourself. It's very easy to get behind, overwhelmed, and stressed out.

Thanks for the update. Some will start a thread like this and never let us know how it turned out when the issue is being resolved.

Great to hear they have the screws on the way

Good deal. Charlynn has been good to many folks (me included), and her job is no question a very hard and break neck paced one. I will say that as a customer myself, it would be nice if they did manage to find some way to stock fasteners, stop pinds, pivot bolts, and anything else thwt folks need from their knives produced in off shore plants. Assembling a few people to work and take care of warranty stuff would be good too.

They need to get her an assistant and as much as i love Spyderco i also wish they had greater stock of parts for all their knives...and maybe some other companies ;p

I sent my para 2 in a couple of weeks ago , can't get in contact with any one and have no idea what's go on , who ever says there customer services is the best has never actually sealed with them or things have changed

i wouldn't say their customer service is the best...but as a company they are top notch and i guarantee if they caused an accident with/to your para 2, they will make it right. plus their knives just rule :D

It rarely takes 2 weeks to get something back from warranty/repair. Have you called? Or emailed? You don't seem to specify anything you've actually done to "get in contact" with the company.

UPDATE: It has been a solid week since I last spoke to Lisa who reassured me that they, Spyderco shipped my screws to me a few days before I spoke to her. Making it 8-9 days in the mail. I have driven to Colorado from Michigan many times for skiing and it only takes 3 days. Mail is the same. I won't hide the fact that I think Spyderco has LIED to me AGAIN.

Ouch.

I've got a soft spot in my heart for Spyderco. A Spyderco was my first modern folder after all, but I haven't bought one since my Southard. Too many posts like this, and while I don't usually hold something against a company that has done me no wrong, there are just too many other great knife companies that have their CS together.

I figure that I'll hear about it when they (finally) get everything in order. At that point I'll purchase their products again.

Good luck getting this all figured out.

Maybe they will show today. A forum member sent me a book last week, and it took 7 days to get here. Usually takes 2 or 3, but sometimes will take longer every now and them. I hope that is all it is.

Call them back today and see what they say
Good luck.

You are not calling Spyderco, a faceless company, a liar. Per your earlier post, you spoke to Lisa, thus you are calling Lisa a liar, or do you mean that Charlynn lied to Lisa?

Either way, derogatory personal remarks are not allowed on this forum.

"Making it 8-9 days in the mail. I have driven to Colorado from Michigan many times for skiing and it only takes 3 days. Mail is the same. I won't hide the fact that I think Spyderco has LIED to me AGAIN."

Your drive time to CO is meaningless.

I sent a package to a place 3 hours away and it took 2 1/2 weeks because the PO sent it elsewhere. I sent the same person another package and it took over a week because the PO sent it across country first. I sent the same person another package and it took 3 days.

You think Spyderco lies...but you cannot offer any "proof" of what they said or even of your problem. If you truly are having such problems, why are you not using e-mail to document the difficulties?

That really really irritates me that Spyderco only has one person to deal with warranty issues.

She has to deal with hundreds of emails a day.

That is just rediculous Spyderco. Hire an assistant for her:thumbdn:
