Spyderco Slysz Bowie Question

I seemed to avoid most server snags, in cart, to checkout, only to be presented with greyed out box for my name in CC info... by the time the server got done crapping its pants they were gone.

I think that I managed to get one after several attempts and payment server errors. I took a screenshot of the confirmation number when it came up, but I haven't received the order confirmation email yet. Fingers crossed!

Well, there is one already listed on the big auction site with a starting bid of $600.00 or a buy it now price of $1,000.00.

The drop was 1,100 units? That means something like 100 sold per minute. I wonder if they put a cap on how many could be sold per individual.

It was one per person. It would have sold out nearly instantly if the site had been able to handle the traffic. I had to refresh the item page four times to get it to load, then another half dozen or so times to get it to load the updated page with the "Add to Cart" button enabled LOL. Then it crashed a bunch. Then after three minutes of waiting and another page reload, it added to my cart. Then it crashed a bunch. Then my cart loaded. Then the payment processing part froze for credit card entry. Then it crashed a bunch. Then finally nine minutes after the drop, I got it to go through and SCORED. For a drop like this, the odds of the drop lasting more than 30 seconds is basically zero. The only reason it lasted the twelve or so minutes it did was because of the technical problems.

1,100 is a decent size drop. I think they will show up after a period of time for sale with little markup. I may be wrong. I think a lot of it is the thrill of getting one and people move on to the next thing.

The other thing is that with the 20CV/gray G10 Kapara from DLT and now the Slysz Bowie from KnifeJoy, it seems like the dam has broken. I had always wondered whether we would ever see exclusives of custom collaboration Spydercos. I think the only exclusives up until the 20CV DLT Kapara were Spyderco designs. Nick Shabazz did note that there were going to be more. If this had been a one-and-done thing, I could see paying a big markup over retail, but knowing that more are coming? No way.

Didn't like it the first time.

Ahh.. the thrill of the chase!
:)
Watching that wheel spin was maddening.
Should I reload or wait? Reload or wait?
Finally scored and email confirmation.
 :D

Congratulations to those forum members who were able to score one. Condolences to those who missed out like myself due to server and payment issues at checkout.

Crazy ... with two copies of the Tighe Stick, and three of the K2, and heavy lock-stick on 4 of the 5 knives, I've learned to stay away from Spyderco RIL with no steel insert.

Smocks came before these - not really any extra red tape to do a collab exclusive.

The K2 I received from a dealer has lock stick like hell so within 5 minutes I put it back into the box and shipped it back for a refund. The flat ti handle with edges everywhere makes it very uncomfortable in the hand.

Well, back to the topic of this thread. Glad to see KnifeJoy sold this SB within minutes. That gives hope for more variants to come. Not that I'm interested in buying it at the current price point, but it is a good news for fellows who want one.

Personally I find it crazy people think this knife is now worth $400. It was discontinued because people weren't originally buying it at $300 saying it was overpriced. Hype, and FOMO, seem to be driving a lot of these sales, as well as flippers looking to try to take advantage of the situation.

Oh I forgot about the Smocks. That's true. I'd always wondered why we didn't see more of collaboration exclusives and everyone was just doing PM2s.

Speaking of which, you've got a bronze ano Slysz Bowie exclusive coming with the mirror stonewash M390/20CV blade that those other guys mucked up in machine satin, right? :D Maybe with a fancy backspacer? And the lockbar insert/overtravel stop that Marcin added on the Swayback?
