Spyderco starmate

Bob Terzoula doesn't get royalties on the Para2. Beyond that, economy of scale. This Sprint is all new, so there are tooling up costs to recover.

im super excited for this release. ill likely grab two of them, when they are easy to find, just cause this is one of my all time favorite spydercos.

Spyderco sells direct at MSFP (unless it's running a sale on a soon to be or already discontinued item) but . . .

Are you an active or retired 1st responder or military?🤔

If so, you're eligible to sign up to be an OpFocus member to buy most knives at a 60% discount from MSRP.

See: OpFocus Program

Didn't recall the OpFocus restriction on Sprints but am leaving the above info up for those who are not already familiar with the OpFocus program.

However, even at MAP, I doubt that I'll buy the Starmate Sprint because there's nothing that makes it any better or more interesting IMO (apart from the steel used) to distinguish it from the 3 prior variations for me as a collector. 🤷‍♂️
No opfocus on Sprints is correct.

Greatly looking forward to this one, though.

I got notice from a dealer of in stock so I grabbed one. looking forward to this, what is it now a second version?, reissue.....

I believe this is the third release. Mine is out for delivery today, I’m excited for it.

Every retailer I’ve seen has sold out in minutes.
3 times. so first version 440v. reissue the second time in vg10 and now this one in 20cv..so 2 reissues, sound right?

nice. yeah im pretty excited. as this is one of my favorite all time spydercos. I hope it sells well, so it hangs around longer this time around....

Question: Did previous versions of the Starmate have a hollow grind?

My Starmate just arrived. Slightly off-center, mushy detent, crooked/off-center Terzuola logo inlay, mysterious staining on the G10, lock-stick not insignificant (but seems to be breaking in ok).. Blade looks good with even grinds & bevels, if quite thick behind the edge. Functionally sharp out of the pouch, but not as "Spyderco sharp" as other models (my other recent Spyderco, the Edgerati is a laser beam in comparison). Action is good overall & lockup is solid. Comfortable neutral ergonomics - great Terzuola design.

It's not going to appeal to everybody. A (hefty) premium is being paid for the Terzuola name and manufacturing costs associated with a relatively small production run. To those that say $337 is lunacy.. yeah, I can't disagree. The price is steep for what this knife is, I have no real argument against that. Still, to my preferences, this is one of the most interesting Spyderco releases in a while. I've always loved Terzuola designs and the Starmate feels like revisiting a piece of history, which I enjoy. Call me crazy, a second Starmate is on its way..

I'm still not interested in it but, for those of you who have to have one, there are a couple of the 20V Sprints currently being offered for sale on EB for $400.

I'm happy with the two 440V variations & the VG10 Sprint already in my collection & am also pleased to see that the release of the 20V Sprint at $337 seems to have increased their value. 😊

Mine arrived yesterday and I love it. I don’t buy a lot of production knives, but this one really appeals to me. nicely centered, very smooth and no lock-stick. It locks up very solidly and has a very firm, crisp detent. It fits in my hand perfectly, the size is great.

It feels like a flagship model for Golden (or USA, Earth, for that matter).

Three crappy pics showing the three generations. Newest 2026 seems like a hybrid between the original and re-release from 2012ish(?). This sprint, when i saw it at Blade, wasn't that impressive. But in hand, I think the design works, better than the original. I really like the dual nested liners, old school proper liner lock. Grinds are good. I can't find anything wrong with it. Mine came in a pouch, no Spyderco box....Not sure if that's new for just Sprints?
