I think that the Spyderco Stretch was one of the best allround knives
that Spyderco has ever made and that it's a pity it is discontinued

I am not sure it is discontinued. is it:( :grumpy:

Its my favorite knife i never owned. I was put off by the hand material. Spyderco should have reinvented it not discontinued it .

Maybe you should buy one, as long as they're in stock.
It is such a fine EDC.

They're going to release it in some different materials. I think Sal said CF and ZDP, IIRC.

I know, but the Stretch was, and is, a good knife, even though most people did not like the kraton inserts ( mostly prejudiced ). I have used this knife very hard as a hunter and EDC for a long time and it is still in my pocket as a good friend.

It could've used a wire clip like seen on the Caly3 and UKPK, but it's an incredible knife just the same. My only gripe with it is that since I have the Stretch, I have no pressing need for the Ocelot.

Sal said he designed it to be the ultimate EDC for us afi's. I admit it was prejudice which kept me from buying one. I am not fond of stainless handles in general, and I have had bad luck with every Kraton handled knife I have carried for more than about a week. It may be something in my body chemistry, but they always wind up being sticky and then dissolving. So the combination of steel and rubber is enough to put me off the knife completely.

I am looking forward to the Stretch II. Carbon fiber and ZDP-189 will be great. It is going to be expensive, but worth it.

From what I understand, the CF streach is a sprint run, not a streach II.

Correct me if I am wrong.

somehow the Stretch never 'did' anything for me. it's ugly and has an SS-handle with Kraton-inserts, and it wasn't that affordable either

i mean, there are plenty of other Spydies in its price-range that are way cooler/better. there's lots of other models that offer G10 handles and a flat-ground blade......; pretty sure that's the reason why it never was a big-seller

all i liked about the Stretch was the flat-ground blade, but that's about it.

personally couldn't care less if it got discontinued indefinitely :foot: :o

It will be a different knife, that's for sure. It will be the commercial "will to please". That's the way things go in a grown up world. Money makes the world go round!

It is a beauty and there is more to it then the fullflat blade :)

I like it one of my favorites, but I like the Volpe also so I guess I'm in the minority. :)

I liked it when I handles it in the store, and then I handled the R2 and that was my next Spyderco. The Ergos, weight, & looks of the R2 were more to my liking. I bet the stretch could cut with the best of them, my hand just liked the R2 better.

if you like the R2 then have a look at the S as well. it rocks and should be your cup of tea. compression lock though

The Stretch is an intersting design study.

We spent many months refining and "perfecting" the pattern. As an all around EDC cutting tool, it seemed to me to have all of the necessary ingredients for the "afi" that wanted to carry a 4" knife. but found modern society didn't like such "big knives". 3" was a tad small so 3.5" seemed like a good compromise.

Efficient blade shape capable of performing a multitude of cutting tasks effectively, comfortable ergos for most hand sizes, Good steel, wide full flat grind, finger choil for close cutting, thin enough to carry and not know it's there, 4 way dedicated clip.

Assuming the design is sound  then SS and Kraton are not desired?

Because the design failed in the marketplace.

The next version (same pattern) is ZDP-189, peel ply carbon fiber scales, full SS liners, mid lock-back, a little thicker, a little lighter.

We haven't yet decided if it will be a sprint, test or ? We know that we're going to make at least one run.
