Was wondering if there any plans for an new variant releases of the Spyderco Stretch..be it Sprint run or not?

One of my favorite Spydies...

Orange Scales would be nice ;)

Nothing definite, at least as far as I know, but there has been some talk of one with a Military/Paramilitary or Caly 3 shaped blade, and some talk of a G-10 version.

I an quite partial to the Stretch and carry my BRG ZDP-189 Stretch a great deal. I love the blade profile an its lineage to the old Hunter model from back in the day. All in all I don't wanna see Spyderco give up on this model. I'd move to see it offered in M390 or something similar. Super Blue would be nifty as well and I'd buy one in a heartbeat. A spyderco with a patina is just too cool.

In my humble opinion (and I think you'd agree with me, Paul) change the blade shape and it's no longer a Stretch. The cohesiveness of the drop point and ergonomics is what defines it as such a great model.

Wasn't there talk of a Super Blue blade model a ways off?

I remember hearing rumblings that a super blue sprint was being considered but was a ways off from becoming reality.

A G10/Super Blue variant would be fantastic.

Whatever future release is in store for the Stretch, I will own. It is my favorite Spydie among the many others that I enjoy. It is a well respected/liked model, but must not be a good seller because it lacks in the sprint/exclusive dept. which saddens me. Does it have to be limited to a Japanese model? Maybe we can do more with it in Taichung...or USA, Earth? I can imagine all different variations but would be happy if we even see one G10 piece in one of those fancy steels PM2's and Manix's have.

Not really. To be honest I was among the first (and possibly THE first) to suggest it, way back when the Stretch was still SS and Krraton:

I do understand your feeling and if it was a question of Spyderco replacing the drop point blade with something else, I'd agree with you. But from what I understand, that's not the plan. The alternate shape would be offered in addition to the DP and might broaden the Stretch's appeal, since there are people whose only objection to it is its blade shape and people who think both blade shapes have their usefulness. And, ever since seeing Gary Graley's neat mod a couple years back, I'd also love to see a version with the blade shaped like the PE blade of the Dyad.

I think I just creamed myself... Deacon's got a stash of em "special" Stretches...

I am one of the people who find the Stretch's blade shape to be displeasing to the eye. I love the handle shape and its thinness. As with the photo posted above, a blade with less of a dropped point appeals to me more. I carefully ground down the hump on my Stretch and for me the difference is night and day. A slight removal of material and suddenly my ugly but effective Stetch is both functional and beautiful. Just my opinion of course.

Guess I should have noted that's not real, it was just my imagination at work, aided by a graphics program. :o

Very good imagination indeed! Got anymore you wanna share? Ive seen your pic of a real one with wood on the scales.

I just bought my first Stretch, and the blade shape is my favorite thing. I would pass on the model without its blade shape now, but maybe there would be more Stretch fans if they came up with a different blade shape. Has Spyderco ever done that though? You change the blade shape, you might as well have a different model. Of course it has awesome ergos, and everything Spyderco is known for, but it is different, and that is what I like. The only other model with a similar blade shape is the Gayle Bradley, and both are "wicked" looking to me.

Yes, they've done it. The Superhawk became the Superleaf.

Yeah that is right. I have seen those here and there, not too common though. It did get a different name, but the handle looks exactly the same. I was thinking like Sebenza's where you can get the regular blade or the Insingo with the sheep's foot.

I just thought of one, the Centofante 3 and 4. Thinking of the Insingo made me think of the 4. Anymore?

Not to mention that, over the years, several Spyderco models have been available with multiple blade shapes. The Meerkat came in leaf and reverse S, the Lil Temp in leaf and trailing point aka rhino horn, the FRN UKPK comes in leaf, drop point, and sheepsfoot and there have been others as well. So, at least to me, offering a Stretch with an alternate blade shape would not be all that unusual.
