Spyderco Stretch

+1 on the straight spined Stretch. I'm not the biggest fan of the hump right before the tip, but I love the handle of it.

My FRN VG10 stretch is my most carried Spyderco. I took the clip of and convexed the edge and it will cut for a long, long time between sharpenings. For the size of the blade it is almost unnoticeable in the pocket. I also am fond of back locks and use them all the time. I find them instinctive to use and I sure have never had one fail.

Sal,

The Stretch CF is my EDC and has been since the day Kristi showed it to me at TREXPO a few years back. Nothing else I've seen has ergonomics that great for my hand. It's blade to handle ratio is perfect in my opinion, and the ZDP-189 cuts like crazy. Although I also have a Blue FRN version, I wish I'd bought a spare CF but I didn't anticipate that they'd be discontinued. If you have a spare laying around, please let me know.

I'm a bit surprised that the Stretch hasn't been a better seller. I look forward to future developments.

I am going to be one of those few that absolutely love the Stretch. Always have and always will. Unfortunately, I never owned the first version but I did have two CF versions and a FRN VG10 version. I think the Stretch II was one of Sal's most "complete" designs for edc and does not require any improvements IMHO.

I feel Sal in the fact that it did not become a big seller. That said, it's unfortunate because I thought the Stretch II would have made a great mule platform for sprints and new steels similar to what is being done with the Para II. I'm looking to add a BRG Stretch II to my rotation this fall and I plan on keeping it there.

I just bought a Stretch VG-10 last week. If it came in a variety of colors (or just blue/gray) like the Endura, I would have purchased one a LONG time ago. I am extremely bored with black and are always looking for a knife option with color. My new blue g-10 Tenacious has become one of my favorite carry knives, despite me quickly flipping my first black one. Anybody else feel the same way??

Frankly, the Stretch was not as popular as I had hoped. In fact, I lost a bet to Eric and Susan on sales. Mine gets a lot of carry time (BRG-ZDP).

As I remember, we have a higher line version in-the-works. Stretch (regular blade shape), bolster, Takefu Damascus blade. I don't know that we've pulled the trigger yet. We talked about a Super Blue version, but the minimum amount of steel required is a lot at this time. I'm open to discussion though.

Sorry to hear that Sal. I've been a Stretch fan since day one, and it's is still my favorite folder.

The higher line version sounds great. Any chance of having them use a less contrasty etch on the Takefu Damascus than on the Caly 3? Something subtle, like the etch on Shun and AG Russell VG-10 Damascus kitchen knives.

Hi Paul,

They're pretty new at this Damascus stuff. We haven't done much. I'll see what I can do.

On the sales for the Stretch, they've not been bad, just not what I had predicted. The Stretch is one of my personal favorites.

Although the Stretch and the Endura are made of the same materials, I chose to buy the Stretch because of its better looks (to me), more refined handle egronomics, bottom jimping, and the blade tang doesnt stick out when closed.
Although if I had more time to save and didn't need a knife so soon, I would have gotten a Paramilitary2 instead. However, i do no regret my purchase of the Stretch. It is incredibly tough. I do wish that the Stretch comes in G-10, but I guess that would cause cannibalization.

Sal, I will definitely take a Super Blue model. To me the Stretch is one of the best designs for "all-around" EDC use. It's light, comfortable, great slicer, good size... really can't think of a bad thing to say about this knife.

I'll most likely be up for a Super Blue Stretch. Some of my favorite blade steel paired up with one of my favorite folders, I'd be cheating myself not to get one. As important and busy as he is I greatly appreciate Sal listening to the consumers and being active in the forums.

Thanks for the update, Mr. Glesser.

I had thought that the Super Blue sprint was a bit more solid than it sounds... how big of a coil are you required to order? enough to cut a few Delica blanks from, as well?

Sal, it is unfortunate that it didn't go over as well, as it is truly a superior cutting blade style and handle is great, here's those shots of the mods I did on that one, but, as I had since sold that one, the pointy version, I now have a blue handled FRN version that I did NOT pointy up the blade, but left it as is and like it just as much, thanks again Sal

Well I gone and dun it, that hump along the spine of the blade kept bugging me so I went and ground it off, gently, but firmly ;) and it was tuff steel to grind I will tell you!

At first I thought, crap, what have I done, as I all of a sudden missed that hump go figure! but now I do like the more pointy aspect of the blade.
