Does anyone know if spyderco has a release date or perspective release date for the tuff folder? I'm assuming not but I'm anticipating it so much i thought I'd ask.

You be assuming correctly. The lack of a release date prevents people from having an emotional and hormonal meltdown if something should happenw ith production and the date is moved. THings happen in life and sometimes it cannot be avoided. It will be released when you see it for sale, basically ;)

Sad but true I suppose. I think i've seen that it's been moved back multiple times. I just hope it gets produced this time around.

That thing looks sweet! I guess that it is for self defense or hunting with that blood groove.

There are much better knives available for each activity you mentioned. You don't go around removing screws with a hammer right? The TUF is basically a hard use folder as interpreted by Spyderco (Ed Schempp). It's going to be epic.
Blood grooves really aren't for blood. They serve to lighten the blade and increase rigidity.
Indeed. From teh Amsterdam thread, it would appear that the knife is going to have more tweaks before it gets anywhere near production. It's barely in proto stage from what I understood. Lots more refinements to be made yet. Maybe 2012?

"Hi JWRickma,

I still have hopes for the end of this year. Finalizing texture now.

sal"

response to my thread asking about a time frame on the TUFF on spyderco forums. the thread is labeled "question for sal and mr schempp"

my personal hopes is a Christmas Folder! This will be a production model, and i plan on being atleast top 5 on a preorder list somewhere :D

The blade profile with that prominent fuller looks totally original and gives the knife just something different that no other knife has. It's a totally different look.

I'm all over this one as well.

Edited to add: The Vallotton and Techno look like real winners also. Man, Spyderco's the best.

the point of the article is that a fuller lightens a blade while loosing less stiffness. in the quote they say that the fullered blade is stiffer than a blade of the same weight without fuller not that the same blade before grinding a fuller.

if that makes sense.

I am confused but I'll take your word for it. :D

Just like fluted barrels are not really stiffer or more accurate either. An accurate barrel is a well made barrel, period. My barrels are always full round but very well made if I have a choice.

Oh, and as for the wait, the nice thing about the Spyderco pre-orders I make, which is as many as a dozen a year but usually around 6-8, is that I just wait for my dealer (Tom Berry) to ping me about 3-5 days before he is expecting the knife in like clock work. I have learned to tune everything out until I hear from Tom. And yes, I have a Tuff on pre-order :D

What pwet is explaining is that the fuller removes weight from the blade without compromising its stiffness, or strength.

It's like titanium. Titanium-- by weight-- is stronger than steel. So, if you weighed an 8 oz. piece of titanium, and an 8 oz piece of steel, the titanium would be stronger. But the titanium piece would be noticeably larger, because it is a lighter material than steel. If the titanium and steel were of the same size, and thereby the titanium weighing less, the steel would be stronger than the titanium.
