Spyderco's SD Blades: Your Favorites?

But if I couldn't, or wouldn't, carry a gun, and had to rely on a knife, I think I'd figure out a way to carry a large fixed blade, like the Spyderco (Hossum designed) Forester. (This knife was specifically designed by Jerry Hossom as a fightring knife.)

If it's supposed to be a fighting knife why is it called the Forester?

Spyderco has so many great models that can be pressed into a SD role. All work, some better than others. The P'kal for those who suscribe to edge-in/up sd work.........sings a beautiful song! The Police 3 must be respected along with being an overall utility design in a thin sturdy package. The Kris is a gentlemens fighter and probably one of the best looking Spyders made. The Yo is a scrappy little gem, in terms of SD. It spells "Stanley" in terms of utility minus any lateral prying. The Chinooks are good, but the little Lava is a true sleeper of design, too bad many missed the virtues of the little big workhorse.

Many of you know how I feel about the karambit! Oh yes hawkbillers sound off!:D The Millie and the Civilian are staples in the Spydie lineup. Take care all and God Bless!

Chinook III or Manix. I actually like the Manix blade better and the Chinook handle better. Tried to swap them but I could never make it work.

The Forester was designed as a camp knife. I make a similar knife with a sharpened swedge that is a combat knife. Easy to confuse the two since the profiles are almost identical.

Mr Hossom does this particular knife/blade have a name? Also can we expect to see it eventually with your other great blade designs in Spyderco's line up? I like that idea of a big blade with a sharpened swedge. I have a couple of older fixed blades I've done that to and I think it makes for great possibilities. Thanks for chiming in Sir :)

I like the Chinook 2 and the Civilian, personally. Between the two, I'd pick the Chinook due to it's more conventional shape and better versitility. But the Civilian is a beast without a doubt.

My favorites potential SD Spydies are

Milly SE, Harpy and Delica SE

My folders are tools that might be called upon.

I have a couple of Civilians, but it's a little too purposeful for daily carry.

Nothing new here....

I really like the hawkbills for SD - the Harpy/Merlin/Tasman clan. I have had some training with these designs so they make good sense.

Daily carries that could be called on in a pinch: Endura, Delica, Lava, Dodo, Spot.

Bigger boys that can do more damage.... Civilian, Captain, Chinnook, Persian, ATR, ParaMil, Ronin FB, Moran FB.

For years I carried a Civilian left side and a plain edge Military right. Just a few weeks ago I pulled the Civie out of the pocket of the shorts I wear around the house, flipped it open and found that the tip was BENT!! I know I didn't cut anything with it, so I know that it had to happen while it was in my pocket. Talk about a nasty shock, I've had Civies for at least ten years and have never seen that happen before! I've replaced it with a serrated edge Military.

A couple of years ago I decided to go with fixed blades rather than folders for general SD carry (read back up to my Glock and cane). So my Chinook 3 has been relegated to my right jacket pocket.

I will probably get a SuperHawk eventually as I prefer to not carry my now discontinued SpyderHawk or Matriarch.

I always thought my Chinook fit well in my hand. I have never done any hard thrusting with it, so I can't comment on that.

When attire or circumstances dictate smaller knives, I like the FB04 Street Bowie, the Matriarch, or a linerless G-10 Civilian.
