Thanks everybody for your appreciation for the Ettrick, very glad to hear this. It certainly is 'barky' both sides..

Regards, Will

Ok, I know it isn't Saturday, but this seems to be the most frequently utilized stag thread, and as this post probably isn't a discussion starter so much as a declaration, posting a new thread didn't really seem to make sense, so I'm just gonna put this here. :D

I've decided something recently: I need more stag in my life.

I currently have three stag-covered knives in my collection. The first is this Schatt & Morgan Coke bottle. While it does have some nice stag, everything else about this knife is a major disappointment. Liner gaps, bear trap pull, poorly ground blade, appallingly thick behind the edge. It's a looker, but that's about all it's got going for it.

The other two are knives I'm much happier with. I picked out this pair #25's in natural stag for Christmas last year (both serial #50). The spearpoint sees a lot of pocket time. Wonderful little knives, these.

So my goal (probably for 2017, since this year's winding down and I'll likely wait for GEC to come out with a pattern I like in stag) is to add more stag to my knife collection.

(There. Now that I've said it on the internet I pretty much have to do it. I think it was Hemingway who said, "Always do offline what you said you'd do online. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut." :D)

Barrett : It sounds very much like you are now afflicted with the disease of needmorestag . It is not known to be deadly , but can and does cause thinnerwallets.
Sorry about the quality of your S&M .

I thought limiting or concentrating on a particular cover (stag) would be easier on my wallet. I'm not so sure. Before, I bought what I liked or struck my fancy at the moment. Now that I'm concentrating more on stag, I almost feel like I have to have them all. I hope that feeling passes.

Has not passed for me yet Alan .

At least you have great taste! That stag 76 you got on the exchange the other day rivals the one I just picked up myself. I know you're going to love that knife.

I can't limit myself to just one cover material and luckily I'm most interested in the really gnarly stag. Im sure that will change. If only I could just buy them all.

Stag has more soul than any other cover material. Just when you think you see stag that rivals all others in your collection, another one comes along to steal the spotlight. I should have a new knife to show off for this coming Saturday!

Barrett The 25 makes a very tidy carry, good stag on them too. Pity about the Schatt, but somehow not surprising, you can see a sizeable gap around the spring and liner from that photo. Unfortunately, it makes you wonder how Queen can keep credibility with this kind of workmanship? A knife is for use and handling above all else.

What I'd like is a Dixie Stockman in stag, there were some very tasty examples released, but inertia and money stopped me from getting hold of one at the time. Would make for a beautiful user as I like the blade assortment more than on the 'usual' Stockman knives.

Thanks Steve, I can't wait to see it. I'm on vacation and the stag is hiding in my mailbox. I'll set it free on Monday.

Really nice, rockman0. I can't make out the maker. Very nice stag and some nice grinds on that blade.

This also belongs in the old friends Friday thread. This is the knife that my wife remembers from our first date in 1984; on the long drive home she was tired and laid down across the front seat of her 71 Duster with her head on my leg, and I had to remove it from my pocket because it bothered her.

^ That's a great story.

New one from Bret! (Posted in his thread also with a little more info)

For Stag Saturday, here's an old friend from 1970. The first knife I ever bought that cost over $20. An Uncle Henry large stockman.
