stainless RATS

I obviously love my 1095 rats. But I grew up using 420 bucks, and yea, they're hard to sharpen, and chip easier. However, I'd buy the whole line tomorrow if it came out.

Is the Izula one of the first models to be released in stainless, or will the larger mainstream knives start out as a test run? The only thing that can hold me off an Izula at this point is if I could get it in my favorite EDC steel, just trying to weigh how long I'd be waiting.

Horn Dog,

Some day you and I have to have a beer together. I appreciate your no-nonsense, no-bullshit, approach to the knife biz!

If you're ever down here on the coast, give me a holler. We can drink a beer on the dock down on the Altamaha River.

Not real sure yet. Have to talk with Shon on this one. Good question though

I think many people have been spoilt by RAT's 1095, that they forgot that it is not the steel, but he who makes it. 440c made by RAT would be amazing steel for humid environment. And it's not like the other knives won't be available in 1095. 440C is a nice addition, and definitely will be bought by people who like stainless, or who love RAT.
Count me in x3

Hey Jeff,

You and I feel the same about 440C compared to 154CM. Having 2 BMs in 154 and 2 in 440C, I prefer the 440C ones for the price. I find the edge retention to be just as good, and easier to sharpen with 440C.

We're also in agreement that using what is simple and works is the best.

I look forward to 440C stainless RATs!

Being in south east asia I don't really want to use carbon steel (too much hard work to keep rust free) so a 440C alternative would be awesome, great news RAT!

You wouldn't want to see them make knives in another carbon steel? Like...maybe...52100?

I'm perfectly happy with 1095. I tried like hell to sign up with 1095 as my user name but couldn't so I went 52100. For the RAT knives I think 1095 is perfect, all things considered.

Putting out a stainless line will increase shelf space and appeal to a wider demographic. I think it is only wise to do so. Expand at a controlled pace, carefully placing new products into the market place. You boys do it right! I would like you to look at ats-34 again, but 440c done right is a very good steel. Could you add a cryo treatment to it?

You're totally missing the point. SS is shiney, looks pretty, and an idiot could take care of it. Did I mention it's shiney? I want them all. :)

Glad you understand, I just posted similar statement in the "choil" thread that you responded to.

Did you see what happened to Cold Steel two years ago? They tried bringing too many new products to the market at once and it took them a full year and a half to get some of them onto shelves!

To all the Cold Steel haters--I'm not bringing this up as a criticism of the company, etc., just as an example of what can happen if you try biting off more than you can chew! Let's keep this thread shiny! :p

I think offering a stainless version is a very good idea. It definately appeals to a new/large market of people who prefer stainless blades.

I personally am going the other direction. I started with, and have alot of stainless blades. Now I have experienced the advantages of good carbon steel and thats what I'm buying now.

What most people don't understand is too much at one time is a very bad business model. I have seen several companies make (making) that mistake.

God, I felt like such an idiot when I started finding out how complicated and expensive the whole manufacturing process for stuff was. I used to think making a small tweak here or this one here would be SO EASY! Now I wonder how they make the damn thing at all! :D
