Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts?

Hugh, I re read chique  this morning. Changed it. I would like to say that Starbucks is chic :D .

I used to drink a little bit of coffee with my creamer/sugar etc. I liked the sweet stuff, big reason why I am a diabetic, I have always had a sweet tooth. My father, on the other hand, likes his black. Straight up. The man drinks about two thermoses worth every day, and sometimes sends his employees to get him coffee during the day. He doesn't like the gourmet fancy schmancy brands, he likes 711 coffee and Folgers. Thats about it. He can't drink anything else (he wonders why he doesn't get good sleep at night ;) ). He's just started drinking Wawa coffee because there's one across the street from his business.

I prefer a hot cuppa tea, decaf, black pekoe orange.

You know, I do believe that I am detecting a very strong strain of elitism involved in the dislike of Starbucks as well as a very strong dislike of a capitalist success.

Nothing wrong with elitism, it shows taste!

According to a History Channel show about coffee, Dunkin Donuts sells more coffee than anyone else in the States...

I wonder how popular Starbucks would be if they just sold coffee and no flavored sugar?

There is something that is worse that Dunkin Donuts coffee.

Dunkin Donuts flavored coffee.

One of my students brought a cup into the lab one day and I really
couldn't stand the smell- I had to post a ban on that <oops-this is community-expletive deleted for fear of ending up in the marsh off of Exit 15 on the NJ turnpike>.:D

 WTF??? Coffee flavored to taste like a donut??? Hace mucho que :barf: !!! Thanks, shaldag! I'll be gargling shots of Medaglia d'Oro espresso all day to wash that mental taste out of my brain.

In Japan the coffee at Dunkin Donuts is actually not all that bad. Japan imports something like 90% of Jamaica's premium Blue Mountain crop. (The coffee is actually QC'd by the government of Jamaica to qualify as genuine Blue Mountain although there are many Jamaican coffee blends that use the name.) DD serves a fair cup of Blue when you can get it but it runs about 450 yen. They also mold/bake/boil/deep-fry their donuts so there is a tab or handle kind of thing and you hang on to it for dunkin'.

I have tasted Jamaica Blue Mountain only rarely. A student interned in my lab for a summer. She was from Jamaica and her family was in the business--and she brought me several kilos over the summer. It was unlike anything that I had tasted before--I could really develop a taste for that. Not too long afterward, someone brought me 1/2 pound of Starbucks Jamaica Blue Mountain for a gift. As you might expect--it was so over-roasted that all the things that made it special were lost.

I mentioned this allready , when I was in Tulsa , this little coffee shop gave me two sample bags ( enough for 5-6 cups) of beans , one of which is Ethiopian , very different flavor if you are used to real dark roasts , sort of fruity and 'zingy' for want of a better word..... I'm still not sure if I like it.
