Starmate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We'll be making the knife in Seki. It will be a little different from the first run. We plan to add skeletonized liners and make it a 4 way clip.

That is great news. The Starmate was the knife that started my knife obsession. I hope it is of similar size to the original. Put me down for at least two plain edge.

I hope they keep the overall design and shape of the knife the same. I think added features like 4 way clip and skeletonized liners
is a great way to improve on an already great classic design. Count me in for one.

Great news, thanks for the update Sal. :) Any idea what color g10 you'll be using? Not that it really matters, I'm still going to buy at least 2 if I can.

Oh, and thanks to Bob T for allowing a sprint run of these.

Oh Sal, people at work are wondering why I'm doing backflips up and down the aisle.

Thank you sir. I feel like a kid at Christmas, except I found out what I'm getting!

Because of the selection of VG10, I am guessing that this will be a catalog offering, not just a sprint run?

Beautiful knife, but I'd be interested in anything but a linerlock. And VG-10, it's a good performer, but nothing special these days.

A lot of people discount the Military's lock, but I think it is a stout linerlock. I expect the new Starmate's lock to be the same quality.

No worries ;).

Same pattern, lock and grind. VG-10, G-10.

How can I pass this? Answer is... I can't... :p VG-10 is good stuff. My fave modern steels. Its easy to sharpen, it holds edge quite well and its nicely corrosion resistant in my experience. Out of all steels it perfroms greatly in 4 seasons and during winter.

Is it a sprint run then or a regular productin model. Haha I guess it depends on how well it sell

Hi Hunter,

watch those back flips at your age.;) I don't know if it's planned as a sprint or a redo? thoughts?

I am not worried about super steels etc. I just really like the basic design. Call it whatever you want, redo or sprint, as long as I can pick up two of them ;) .

If John Belushi could do it (fat and in his 30's), I can too (fat and in my 30's) :D.

I think because it will be in VG10, I'm guessing price will be comparable to that of the G10 large Lum?

I know I will buy two. I can't speak for everyone else. I think it will be a good seller among knife nuts. Probably not something to toss out there for the sporting goods stores. Maybe a sprint run to start, if that makes $, run with it.

You know more about this game than I do :).

If it's just going to be a Sprint run, it had better be a big one. I suspect that this will be a big seller.

First...I can't wait for this to come out!
Second...I would rather see it as a redo than a sprint run. I think that there is enough interest in the knife that it would do well. It would also allow more people the opportunity to enjoy (and afford) it. IMHO

So many great Spydies on the horizon! :D:thumbup:

Calling it a sprint and then putting it into production is pretty much guaranteed to piss off some very vocal folks around here. Adding liners and 4-way clip sounds more like a redo than a sprint to me anyway.

No kidding. If it is a sprint, it deserves to have something other than VG10. Nothing wrong with that steel, but having so many other choice it begs the question, "Why?". We have aother great knife the Centofante Memory, in VG10, we just had a Lum Tanto in VG10. VG10 is already available on almost the entire Seki lineup. Just my opinion here, but these knives in particular deserve to have different steel.

I have developed a deep appreciation for flat grinds, I would like to see the Starmate with a FFG. If it is standar with a hollow grind, why not a FFG sprint run with super steels? I'll get a regular redo model, and a Sprint run with the FFG and whatever super steel Spyderco comes up with.

I would like a redo but with better steel and liners. I think it would sell but I think a FFG would make it too much like others knives.
