You are very talented. nice work. I will have to show my wife the pics of your garage. It looks like mine.
Doesn't that significantly reduce the strength in the arm, and introduce some play? If it does, I would think that it would affect the tracking on the grinder.
One of the draw backs of the multi platen is the holes for the wheels are pre drilled for 1/2" bolt. Tapping for a 1/2" bolt is not an option. So a problem you can run into is while using the multiplaten your bolt heads will hit the tool arm. You could add spacers to all the wheels all the way around to make for clearance or you can just do what I do and cut out a space in the tool arm.
This allows the platen to spin 360* so you can move the platen to use the 2" or 4" wheel as well as the platen or for slack grinding. I hope this build is giving some future GIB makers some ideas.
That's really starting to come together nicely! Are you going to put some type of liner on the platen? Also, did you slot the two holes that attache the platen to the upright? It's not very clear on the picture. I would think that it would be nice to be able to adjust how far the platen sticks out in front of the tangent between the two wheels.
Ok, one more question - how long is the 1 1/2" square tubing for the platen holder and tool rest? I don't know how much to get. I'll be running 72" belts, BTW.
You are my new best friend! I was trying to figure that one out for a while. Duh! so flippin simple. Awesome!
