Steel quality and snobbism.

It really depends what one considers "dramatic". As things are today, typical RC for 1095 is around 60HRC at best. Compare that with CPM 10V at 64-65HRC, for cardboard and rope cutting, which is quite realistic choice of materials. Performance increase for both, cutting and edge holding will be few hundred %. ;)

Wow, that's harder than woodpecker lips.

I just wanted to say "harder than woodpecker lips".

I pre-ordered a PM2 with CTS-204P for two reasons personally. I liked the idea of Carpenter being a US company, and I would like a knife that I do not have to sharpen as frequently. I am hoping that I could go twice as long (maybe?) before sharpening when compared to say my Tenacious with 8Cr13MoV. If not a drastic difference, oh well I have my first PM2 and only spent $30 more than a regular PM2 and about the same as a black blade or camo handle. This is a bit extreme, but I have seen pictures of guys who have sharpened a knife so much (a Skyline on here somewhere) that it looked nothing like the original knife. I use my knives a lot and if sharpening less means less material removed then that means more years of using and enjoying that knife.
