What features do you think that JAB offers that BKT doesn't?

If any at all?

Oh, and does anyone else find Steve Johnson sexy?

Horrible handles.

Could you offer up something to support that. I don't mind critisim, I do mind blind critism without anything to support it.

Mind to elaborate some?

Pros:

Sheaths: The JAB blades come with the same style of sheath that the ZK knives do, and I actually like their larger pocket, and lack of velcro.

Color: Handle scales, and sheaths. As cool as all back is, I don't actually feel a need for solid black, and prefer the tan color of the JAB sheath and scales. The new BK tweeners help resolve both of these issues.

Hollow ground blades: While I haven't tried a Potbelly yet, I hear it is very good at the smaller work even with its size, because of the hollow grind (does he want to send one to me for testing yet? I'll send it back...)

Cons:

Selection: In terms of fixed blades, they offer really only one size. You get to choose if you want a "stabby" 7in blade, or a "choppy" 7in blade. I personally wouldn't mind seeing some different sizes in there (5-6in 3/16in thick something would be nice).

Handle: I don't mind the shape tons, but I'm not sure what it adds over something with a more traditional handle shape. Also, the scales on my ZK are too slippery (the material is slicker than grivory somehow), and too thin, and don't fill my hand as well as I would like.

Other:

JAB makes a few folders, but I haven't really tried them out. But that does make them different.

The price point is about the same, as is the construction materials and quality.

So they are sweet looking, but the blade shapes seem pretty specialized, and there is only one size.

agree with Moose, would be great to hear some constructive criticism on the handle topic...

can't argue with a think ocnLogan is saying.....

"thing" not "think" sorry

when do the tweeners hit the street??

Sure. I put it in my hand and hated the handles. They felt uncomfortable and not ergonomic at all. Many have complained about the handles after heavy use in many reviews I have read. Which was upsetting, because I really wanted to like it. I love the blade on the potbelly. Love it. The handles stopped me from buying it. A potbelly with Becker handles would be the most awesome knife ever.

interesting. how big are your hands?? honest question....
Average I guess. Becker handles are perfect for me. I think if it didn't have the little index finger part it might work for me. They are certainly well made. I just personally can't stand the handles. Same thing that stopped me from buying the ZK War Sword. Everything else I like. I thought it (potbelly) would be my BK9 killer till I held it.

gotcha. next time ya grab one maybe try this, if you're inclined... use a lanyard, and put all your fingers behind the "bump" on the bottom of the handle; that'll put you in the "chopping" grip with the Potbelly. It shifts the blade weight WAY forward and will increase the chopping power tremendously. The rest of the grip lets a guy choke up on it for "detail" cutting... just my experience with em, and my opinion, neither of which will get me a cup of decent coffee.

This is how I use the handle, and while it works well for chopping, and does let you choke up for closer work, I don't feel that the protruding portion actually makes it any easier to choke forward or hold very far rearward. It does indeed do this as you described, but it doesn't really do anything else differently than the same handle shape minus the protruding part.

Like I said, if the handles were a different texture and/or thicker, I think I would like it more. Its not "bad" as is for me, its just not "great" like the becker handles.

Ah ha, thank you much, mio fratello. I didn't like the plastic scales much either.

I think something like Kraton scales or a softer material would cause less slipping. I used the crap outta my Potbelly for a while, and that was my only complaint, was they got slick when they got sweaty.

SEJ does have a point too, with the 3 position grip, like the BKT's have.

i'm liking the Steve grips.

have a Potbelly i bought with my own money even, take it on camping trips, and lend it to people without saying a word to influence them... they like it too.

have a Zombie Pestilence Chopper too, love me that Case flavored blade shape.

though they like the Machax more :) esp the Ladies. mmm :)

will eventually score a Chop Stick, and probably a War Sword. Not sure about the Death Dagger, but do aim to like the Famine Tanto.

i've given a league of Zombie folders away by now. friends love them. the color, the utility. great price :)

Moose - I've got a buddy who does some off the hook stippling on the handles, let me know if you want his contact info I'll get him to hook you up with a stipple job on your Potbelly. It seemed to make mine easier to hold onto when sweaty/bloody or just plain wet.

when do the tweeners hit the street?? I gotta have one of those trailing points.... has KA-BAR considered selling the 3 as a set?? I'd jump all over that....

....especially if they added the Machax to the kit....

I was gonna read the thread, but considering how sticky it was in there, and how much pron, I didn't want to contract anything...
