Steve Johnson and JAB Blades.......

I disappear for a bit...we had a critter getting unruly... the old girl has a crush on Moose... :)

Ya know, all this talk of making a hybrid Becker 14 and Potbelly has me thinking evil thoughts... I'm a country boy with a decent shop, I can weld and heat treat.... hell I've even got a grinder to clean up the slag.... AND it would mean I could put a proper JAB handle on BK&T 14 hmmmmm..... (grin)

how the hell does one delete a post when they're a stupid newbie and put it up twice by mistake???

That's it. I'm sending the copyright police and the SPCA along with PETA to your place. See what you then, Mr. JAB handles on a Becker.

:D

I imagine you're gonna fit in pretty good around here! Friendly ribbing is encouraged by most (I think), and that one was pretty snappy! :D

ETA- this was my 888th post. Cool.

Gracias, amigo.

OK, that made me belly laff, Logan, and laff hard. Heat treater.

No, JAB ain't goin' away, if Steve Johnson can get some more designs out. :D

Moose

Glad I could help relieve some stress :p.

And also glad to hear that JAB isn't going away anytime soon. You just got me worried with this thread...

Worried how? I been seeing some of the new designs, and I have it on good authority you'll be able to get some of Steve's semi custom makes, direct from him.

Here, on Bladeforums.

Welcome to the Becker forum and Bladeforums. We'll see what we can't do to get you lookin' at some.

Moose

This sounds excellent. I think we would LOVE to see the new designs.

And the reason you had me scared is because the way this thread started out it sounded like you were doing recon for KaBar.

Still though, I'm waiting on that potbelly from Mr Johnson to do me a review :D.

Naw, I was doing recon for Steve.

I asked him about that potbelly. Never heard a grown man laff so hard he puked before.

I can check that off my list of things I don't wanna hear over the phone. :D

agree with Moose, would be great to hear some constructive criticism on the handle topic...

I've thought a bit about this before myself. First off, like C_Tanner, I think the Potbelly has a great blade.
And while I don't feel as strongly about the handles as he does, I am thinking about modding mine to fit my hand a little better.
At some point, I'm probably going to mute that indexing hump and then just go micarta on the scales. Something with this line in mind...
That's the Becker way. If you want something different, you start grinding.

Here's the same GIMP job I did from a thread months ago, when the same subject was being discussed. Not my best work, but gives you the idea:

This one I left a small notch in:

I like the idea of keeping the index hump, but I would like it a little further forward and not quite as pronounced. Should be a pretty simple mod when I can find the time.

Oh yeah, it's nice to see some new blood in here. :p

Doesn't seem like it would take much. I never really understood that handle design. The notch seems too far back, and too pronounced.

Close, Bladite, close..... here's a better look at it....
