Stockman roundup.. Lets see 'em...

One more for now...

If I am not mistaken, that is bone. Blue-dyed, rope-jigged bone. I have heard these came from the late days of Schrade.

That blue rope jigging is neat, Steve! Looks especially good on that serpentine stockman.
Here are three Ulsters I've had tucked away for a while now. They used some interesting bone as well.

Here are a couple more "trios" of stockmen.
This one consists of an Ulster USA 55G at top (repeat from previous pic), a Camillus 68, and a Shapleigh DES 314.

And this bunch has a Keen Kutter w. no number (maybe by Camillus?), A Craftsman 9475, and a Schrade Walden 881 (I think).

These last 3 have real nice jigged bone, IMO.

Nice one Steve. the bolsters almost look like sterling silver. I think Schrade made some back when they started using bone again. Nice Jigging too.

Charlie the punch on that Camillus is to die for.

lwt210, nice yeller:thumbup:

I don't avidly collect Case knives, but they sure made some nice ones 40-45 years ago, especially the stockman patterns. All nickel-silver furniture, and nice grinds on carbon steel that takes and holds a nice edge, not to mention some attractive Jigged bone handles, makes them pretty irresistible!
Add in some authoritative snap, and you just gotta have the knife!
Just bought this one - a 6347HP.

Totally agree, Charlie. One of my favorite production stock knives. Not a sweetheart like yours but here's one from 1977:

...and a 6318 from the same era as your 6347:

I've never seen a red bone take on that color E.
The knife doesn't look like it has had much use. Are both scales the same ?

Charlie, your 6347 is a beauty

Good eye, Mike! You can see the band mark on the left side of the scale from where it was attached to a display.
The pile side is a deeper red. The mark side is faded from being exposed to light.

It is "new" but for my touching it up.

I like it. Even though it hadn't been used, it has already taken on a lot of character.
I have dreams of going to an old hardware store and seeing a display full of 50-60 year old Case knives. But I know I'm not alone, I'm sure most of us here have the same dream :D

Well in this case, it came from the Waynorth General Store.
Charlie was kind enough to send it in exchange for an older vintage knife I'd sent him a couple years back.

I wonder how many "board" knives would show up if we started a thread? They would have to have a "wire line" to prove their status!!:D
I'll have to see if I have another couple to make it worthwhile!

BTW, the color on that 1977 is really nice, Elliott! Great depth in it.
Have any custom makers done deep red like that??

When Ken Coats made my Texas Jack we tried to approximate that color but it came out a bit more to the brown side of the spectrum. When you mix art and science the results are invariably interesting.

Here's an image I just shot out on the deck real quick (between the ubiquitous rain drops):

I really like the color that Ken Coats came up with even though it's not an exact match. In real life it is a bit more brown than the Case but still wonderful imho.
The jigging is different than Case jigging at my request.

thanks gang for the wonderful excursion, i sold all my oldies 6 or 7 yrs. back. did'nt foresee i would go crazy again after all these years.
