**STOLEN KNIFE ALERT**

This thread raises my blood pressure, and makes me both angry, and anxious. I've shipped knives up to $2k in value.....

I would really not be able to handle a loss on a knife like that!

I always ship fedex and I always buy the insurance. If your worry is that purchasing the right amount of insurance will lead to a theft AND the insurance claim will not be paid you need to be asking yourself why you are using that shipper?

That said there is a usps mail product,(certified mail perhaps?)that has signatures every time it changes hands leaving no doubt as to where any shenanigans occur. I miss Esav he could have laid it out off the top of his head.
That would be registered mail. I miss him too.

When you were packing up the knife, at USPS' kiosk, do you think anybody could see what you were packing? Or, did you have it pretty much packed, when you went to the kiosk? Was there a camera, over the kiosk? If so, where did the feed go?

Kind of wondering if those, who were in the back, could see what you were packing, while you were packing, at the kiosk. Maybe I read, what you wrote, incorrectly? Maybe you never even went to a kiosk, to pack up the knife? Who knows? :D

Sorry this happened to you, Seth. I already concluded before I finished reading your OP that you had taken personal loss/risk to remedy the situation. You are definitely a valued member of this community.
Thank you sincerely, Jason. It’s very cool to hear that from a top tier individual like you, who I respect so highly & consider a good friend. Hope you’re having a great weekend!

The knife was already packed away, and the box sealed at my home. I simply used the kiosk to print and pay for the postage, then handed it to an employee who then scanned it in directly in front of me, turned around, took a few steps, and placed it on a conveyor with all the other outbound priority boxes. This was not a local branch. It is the main regional origin/distribution facility in West Palm Beach, FL
Enjoy this fine Saturday night

Thank you! I think I got it, now!

Registered mail is the most secure method to mail anything expensive. I have been told it travels in a locked cage with other registered items only and must be signed off by each employee that handles that cage or any package inside as it moves through the USPS system. That is how expensive watches and jewelry are shipped. When I shipped an expensive watch several years ago I was told at the time it came with automatic $5,000 insurance and I could purchase more. The packaging required paper sealing tape completely around which was then ink stamped on every side of the box and other random locations to detect any potential tampering from handoff to delivery. The package also requires signature at delivery by the recipient.
