Jim Walker damascus bowie. 11 1/4" blade, ivory handle. This knife was shipped to Jim to treat the ivory for me. I shipped it priority mail, insured but under-insured, on Feb 24, 2005 and it disappeared. Maybe it will still show up, but I doubt it. It's an awesome knife and I want it back. If anyone bumps into this one, please let me know. Also, btw, postal service response to lost items sucks. They pursue every possible avenue for not paying a claim and they don't give a damn that they lost your package. My thinking is that if they put as much effort into not hiring scumbags as they do into not paying claims, there wouldn't be as many claims. However, I'm well aware that what I think doesn't matter. Again, if anyone runs into this knife, please let me know. Thanks,

Pete

Not quite sure why there's no option to post a pic. I'll try to get it posted. In the meantime, if anyone thinks they might have seen the knife, please Email me for a pic. Thanks.

You can link the pic from a pic hosting site (if you have one). If not, e-mail it to me and I'll see if I can post it. :)

I really am sorry your knife is missing.

USPS has something like three-quarters of a million employees. There's bound to be a few unreliables in that number.

I hope you get your knife back. Don't give up hope yet, I had a friend ship a knife from the US to Canada last year and a turned up 5 months later.

We have a better chance of someone spotting that one than just about any of the other knives that have been reported stolen. You don't see a knife like that every day....

Guys,

I've been out of town for about a week. I really appreciate all the support regarding this knife. I hate to lose it, it's a fantastic knife. The ladder pattern damascus is the absolute best I've ever seen, fit and finish is as perfect as it gets. Jim Walker did a great job. Anyway, if you see one out there just like it, don't hesitate to let me know. It's the only one of it's kind and will turn up somewhere. It would be great to be able to trace it all the way back to whoever stole it. (I know, fat chance.) Anyway, thanks again for the support,

Pete

Very unfortunate that there are subhuman dickheads that respect no one's property and think nothing of taking it. I sincerley hope it turns up, I see a lot of knives and will be looking out for this beauty.

and everyone else for keeping an eye out. The pic doesn't do this knife justice. The damascus is unbelievable. Fit and finish are as good as any I've ever seen. When I saw this knife, I was really impressed. When I asked Jim Walker for help ( sunstantiate the value, etc...), he was really nice about it and is obviously a great guy to deal with. I wanted to show this one off a lot more, was going to send it to Coop for pics, but never got the chance and that's too bad. Thanks for the help guys....

Sorry about your knife and I sure hope it shows up.

I have read many horror stories about usps not paying insurance claims. :grumpy: Although more expensive, registered mail may be a better way to go as there is tracking throughout the entire shipping process.

I know this doesn't help you now but maybe someone here may want to consider that option for their important mailings.

Sorry to hear of your grief... :grumpy:

While it's a little late for this incident, I would HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of USPS "restricted delivery" service. It costs an additional $3.50, but the package cannot be delivered to anyone but he addressee - you will have to go to the PO and show your ID to verify in order to pick up your parcel. It takes an extra day, since you have to wait to pick it up the next day, but the piece of mind is well worth the small extra charge. "Restricted delivery" also makes it about impossible for the PO to wriggle out of their responsibility in honoring your insurance claim.

Good luck, I hope it turns up for you.

I know this is late,But I would never use USPS for shipping anything worth value and can not be replaced, there a bunch of assh_les,once you put it in there system ,your f__ked,always use UPS and ship it, at the very least 3 day air, this way you can track it from the time it leaves till the time it get there.they have the best traceablity, there not perfect but dam close.
Good Luck

Thanks for your advice AMERICAN, but I've had a perfect record of USPS delivering to and from here.

UPS tends to leave packages out on the back porch where any passing kid can grab them.

And some of us who worked USPS don't appreciate the casual insult.

HEY NOW....dont want to get those postal guys PO'ed! :D ;) Just teasing of course sir, Wanted to wish you a Happy and Healthy Holidays. And I second the suggestion on the loss, please check the other forums as well.
