Stolen Rod Olson timascus unique one!!!

There are many possible explanations. Maybe Robson211 pulled a Jedi mind trick and opened the "empty" box and, with a little sleight of hand, the knife disappeared down his sleeve unseen by the postman. Or perhaps the knife was never in the box at all. OR MAYBE...

...hopefully non of you end up in my situation!!!

Something is very wrong!!!

...It's one person with TWO internet personas! :O He could have sold the knife to himself!

I suspected this very thing from the get go.

It would explain why "they" are so nice to each other.

But why go to BF? What would he gain?

It's not that USPS makes their insurance depend on that.

The Admin can relatively easily discern if the two posters are indeed the same by viewing their ISP addresses, which if it were the case would bring down the banishment hammer. I don't think that shenanigans like what some of you are speculating to be the case will be conducive to the buyer in this case (Robson?) because I have seen this person selling some rather pricey Shiros here on the Exchange as of late. This rather poorly thought of thread and the executed sale method which IMHO must have violated some of the rules of Blade Forums (first of, it wasn't a real and honest BF sale thread!) makes me hesitant doing business with either of these two gents in the future.

From the pics it is clear that there was one piece of tape on one flap and two on the other. The blue rubber glove tip does seem to be between the two pieces of tape, but....is the tape under the blue rubber cut ? You said you opened it with your finger, is that what made the tear next to the flap or was it already torn upon receipt?

Could a postal employee have cut the tape took the knife and resealed that end, catching his glove tip in the process? Being blue label insured they (or whoever) would know it was high value and maybe though jewelry, watch or cell phone inside.

I know when I ship in a flat rate I tape all the openings, and the flap and tape whatever is inside to the box itself so if a flap gets cut it will not just slide out.

I just can't see how it 'slipped' out at all.
I'm doubting we'll ever know exactly what happened, unfortunately.

As more info and coherent postings have come out, assuming both buyer and seller are good people - I am thinking the same thing. It would have been very easy for anyone to cut that one small piece of tape, open the pkg, remove the knife, and then use a tape gun to seal the pkg back up. I know quite a few PO employees use those types of gloves - esp after the whole anthrax mess. But in the process a small part of their glove got stuck on the tape and they just pulled it off leaving what we see. Buyer did not mention that right off the bat here - so I think that perhaps makes it a more credible fact. Still some weird things going on here though that are difficult to explain. Such as why post the knife here and an I'll take it when the deal was already done somewhere else. Seems a little fishy or at least odd.
Not getting that part.

^^
True.
Just imagine sombody else would have said I'll take it before the OP and then the seller would be like "nah I'll give it to the next guy."

In reference to the small piece of blue latex on the tape where it was exposed. Those mail hampers that they toss the parcels in have all sorts of loose trash at the bottom that could have got stuck on the tape. Happens all the time, only question is it a piece of a glove or one of them fancy condoms ?

^ I think you're on to something. :D

Smells fishy.

My gut tells me this is an elaborate scheme intended to defraud the PO of $1000.

Winner winner chicken dinner... Thought these fellas' style of wording and apparent maturity level were awful similar since page 2..Lots of their posts follow the same pattern it seems like. Also, its quite odd that the situation that they wanted to avert with posting this deal here is the exact one that arose.
Walks like a duck, talks like a duck... Bet it aint a dog.

Not really.. if one of these fellas is on a fone ip and the other is on a home isp ip, there will be no similarity. Even 10 year old scammers know about IP numbers identifying their multiple personalities.
