External stop pins are just plain poor engineering:

Just because a company makes knives doesn't mean they know everything, and get everything just right in a design, and only put out perfect designs. If that was the case liner and frame locks wouldn't be used at all. :D And a company would only need to make one model if it was "perfect". Basically any design element is compromising one thing for another. And we will never know why a company chooses to do something a certain way, and whether there is a reason or motivation behind something or if it was just overlooked or perhaps they don't care or feel it's an issue, or.... I also think some companies don't make an changes to a model once the design is finalised. I'm not a fan of CRK and don't own any so not sure if they make small changes or updates? I doubt many companies except Spyderco release this information.

One thing that absolutely cannot be argued is that when the contact area between 2 pieces is increased, the pressure is decreased for a given force. Also, there will be less permanent deformation to a material at a lower applied pressure. That is just basic science.

Why? Apart from his whole Knife maker debacle, I always thought he provided useful data.

I think this site provides far more valuable data than any one person ever could.

Because we have literally thousands of people here using knives, we have a huge pool to gather data from. :)
If one guy says a certain feature causes failure, he could have had bad luck, and got a bad knife that failed.
Or he could be lying to cause drama.

If dozens or hundreds of people start experiencing an issue though, it becomes obvious that it really is an issue, and with mounting evidence and the numbers involved, the chances of it being liars for drama purposes diminish.

Never said this site didn't offer data (or more). I agree with you completely, the knowledge here on BF is endless. But one guy saying something shouldn't matter. It was other people who sensationalized it by making it a big deal ;).
