Striders are known for lockup issues and you would think that in all the years they made them, they would have addressed it. I would buy a LEGO like my SMF I had but all the ones at see have the lock rock, sticky locks. Not dealing with the issues. I will
Spend my $$ elsewhere.
When a I seen them sold out everywhere, I wondered what had happened. Hence the reason for my post.
While I have never had lock rock issues with any of mine, and I have owned a bunch over the years, they did change the tang grind some years back. On the earlier ones the tang had a curve(concave) the latest have a flat look. They seem to have less returns now and the fit and finish is also better, but hard to beat a Sebenza.
I have only returned 2 for warranty work
My 1st which had excessive lock stick-likely would have worked out with time, but I was new to them and considered it a fault
and 1 that had a loose thumb stud.
They took care of both problems
I however am carrying thinner blades these days, so my one remaining sees little use.
My major issue with them was when I emailed and called to send it in, I never received any kind of acknowledgment. I emailed and called for months intermittently. Never an email reply. Never a return phone call after leaving messages. THATS what turned me off to them. I like the design of the SNG & SMF. But the issues and the CS, just missed the mark for me. Just wish I had kept my lone “good” one.
I had 1 good one. When a forumThe elephant in the thread: "damn it man...not another Strider thread"
What happened to Strider is that he's reaping what he sowed.
I understand you have well meaning intentions and that you are innocently, simply, seeking knowledge about a knife you like.
The thing is, most around here would rather that Strider never existed, much less do anything to assist him in hanging by a thread, so to speak.
And I'm sorry but it just has to be said/ reiterated...His daggum name aint even Strider, it's Burger. So "have fun with your faulty Burger knife" is the last thing I really care to say
if you're hell-bent on buying one.
I hear ya! CRKs are great knives from great people. Can't beat that!I had 1 good one. When a forum
Member mentioned them, I was like, I so liked that old SMF. Will have to look into them. Then I seen they were sold out everywhere and prices were triple what they used to cost on the secondary market. Being a huge fan of the hobby, was surprised they closed in 2017 and so didn’t know anything about it. I am a CRK and Spartan guy, so will continue to stick with them. The education of what happened though is insightful. His stolen valor was an issue way back when even. I just had no idea they closed their doors. Wish I had that old SMF, but not about to pay what they cost now. The ones I have seen similar to what I have for sale have lock issues, so looks like nothing has changed with them.
The fix was easy, I just bought another CRK today..... lol.
I've been looking at striders as the third pillar of my incomplete holy trinity and have been debating getting one. Glad I found this thread. I previously thought I might be missing out on one of the classics but I'm glad to have been enlightened. I never really liked thier design and they are always overpriced compared to crk and hinderer, but this other dodgy stuff about Mickey and his F&F I'd the last nail in the coffin. What other knife maker would you guys consider the third pillar of the knife holy trinity? Cheers.
Spar
Spartan Blades Harsey Folder hands down. I have had most of the major brands over the years and the SHF is the closest you will get to CRK in a Made in USA folder. I have like 8-9 of them and growing. They blow away Hinderer as well. Some are stiff out of the box, but break into a smoother folder than even the sebenza and that’s saying something. I liken the SHF To a cross between a sebenza and an xm-18. The best of both worlds. The guys at Spartan are amazing and their Customer Service is as solid as CRK.
Just that I unterstand this correctly:Built on lies.
If a motor t mechanic is attached to a seal team for a duration of his enlistment can he say he was a "seal" for the next 40 years of his life? I meet an astonishing amount of sniper recon rangers and very few admin etc. I find it disgusting, if someone likes his knives have at it.Just that I unterstand this correctly:
Customers bought Strider knives because of his alleged military background and not because of the product itself (design, ergonomics, material, quality, ...)?

You can get a well-made Strider from Pro-Tech, and more recently, Medford. Medford in general would be a good replacement for Strider in that sort of group.
