Strider Knives....????

From what I have read and seen, Medford is a loose cannon himself. Never had a Pro-Tech. Will have to check them out and revisit. What models...?? Anything similar to SMF/SNG.....?

Pro-Tech, led by a well-regarded guy, Dave Wattenberg, make high-quality production and custom autos. They make an auto version of both the SNG and PT.

I believe the blade stock is slightly thinner on the Pro-Tech version than the original, but their manufacturing is exceptional. They've won the Best Investor/Collector Knife award at Blade Show the last 5 years running (at least), so they can make some pretty remarkable stuff.

Pretty cool. Thanks for the info. Not into autos, wish they made one without. Nice looking design though.

I'd be all over the protech strider it if it was a button lock manual. No autos for me though. Thanks for the rec.

If a motor t mechanic is attached to a seal team for a duration of his enlistment can he say he was a "seal" for the next 40 years of his life?
If he says this it will not / hardly influence my opinion about his work - if he is a good mechanic he is still a good one, if he is bad he stays bad

I like my PT - it is a great knife, except for the very poor edge-handle-ratio ...

While Mick messed up badly, he sure designed one of the best hard use folding knives ever made. Especially under the M. Strider brand. I've had several and when I needed some quick funds, I sold them in minutes for a slight profit or at break even after paypal fees. They sell for a reason...they're simply awesome. No I cannot defend stolen valor and as a veteran admittedly I sometimes struggle with the fact that I love the blades, but as a tool, the SnG and SMF are 2 of my favorites. If you're on the fence about trying one out, I say go for it and if the tool isn't for you, you're going to get your $$ back for sure. For those that cannot get past the elephant in the room, I totally get it. Thankfully there are other great options out there as many have mentioned that makes this hobby so enjoyable.

The SNG is my second favorite knife design to the Sebenza. And it's very close. The latest runs with the M. Strider markings are made extremely well. Better than the older ones I got to handle.

I think he's leaving a ton of money on the table by not producing more of these. I'd probably own multiple configurations of the SNG and SMF if they were easier to get at table price. My first stop at Blade Show was going to be the Strider table and it looks like that's probably not going to happen now. :/

Recently acquired a Fatty SnG 3/4 grind and it quickly has become one of my favorite knives. Cuts very well, and is extremely smooth in terms of action. The aluminum scale is excellent, offering the perfect amount of traction for draw, and the balance is forward with the .190 blade, making it feel perfect in the forward choil grip. I love this knife, and it was a Protech-Strider SNG that was my gateway drug that showed me the magic of the ergos.

from what I hear:
He purposely shrank the company, but that didn't shrink demand. Strider knives had taken on a life of it's own, and just running it was taking up all his time. He wanted to get back to doing more customs, got rid of a partner and made it more of a family affair, with his wife and son.

Love Pro Tech! Have a bunch, carry a TR-3 as a work knife.
Bought one of these and carried it once, never again.
When it is in pocket the tips of the handle, where the blade stops rest, dug into my leg......badly.
The hump at the back of the handle wasn’t too comfy during use also.
Total

That's why there is chocolate and vanilla... I love them in both sizes - in fact, the PT has become my favorite small knife.

I guess I'll just have to pick one up as a find them. Fantastic knives.

Ive been considering a protech SNG quite a bit lately as Strider prices are more than im willing to spend considering everything surrounding the brand and product in general. The protech strider appears to be a good
option to try out the SNG design. While
I haven't handled any Protechs I do own several other autos and dont mind them but prefer manuals so im curious if its as simple as removing the coil spring to convert to a manual? If not id be ok with the auto either way.

You can sign up for their newsletter on his site and they do have a facebook or instagram( I belong the neither) site where they also make announcement of runs they are selling on the site. They preannounce but they go fast, and are available that way. and of course the secondary market

When ones does down the path of the moral consumer you find yourself homeless.

That's cute. You do you and choose whatever battles you want to fight and moral lines you want to draw. People can rationalize whatever they want. It's a personal decision.

The great thing is, pretty much all of us, in just about all the places people visit this site from, can thank people who actually served in the military for our ability to have these choices.

Me? I won't support stolen valor, especially for a luxury item.

This dead horse was beat into a mush over a decade ago, not much else to be done or said about it now. He was exposed and has since closed up shop. I hate to see someone who made a mistake have to keep reliving it for the rest of his life.

You don't have to like him, I understand the hard feelings, but just remember that human beings tend to be really good at making mistakes.

A mistake is only ordering three hamburgers when there are four people in your group you're bringing lunch for. A mistake is when you forget that you had a meeting you were supposed to attend at work that day.

A mistake is NOT creating a fictional account of military honors earned and bravery that you have not earned, stealing the "shine" from those who have so you can sell your garbage product.

Strider will NEVER get a pass from many of us, and for good reason. So, let's not start with the inferences of "Jeez guys, can't you let it go?"

Mickey Ray Burger, to my knowledge has never once openly apologized for the lies he told in order to sell knives to people who love to buy products that they think will confer some of that "Shine" to themselves. He's a scumbag, and I'm glad his business closed down. His knives aren't even that good, and frankly, the ones I handled were hilariously bad in the ergos department. And how about those "nightmare" grinds, eh? Trash.

I get that you don’t like them, and I don’t blame you, but to say they are not quality knives with good ergos is kinda hilarious.

I’ve owned many and they have all been quality knives that fit my hands perfectly. That said, I don’t own anymore and even gave my last SnG away in a GAW. If you can stomach the politics of the issue then they are good knives.

I don’t think they are worth the current asking price and don’t like the drama associated with them, so I don’t buy them anymore.

Ergonomics are completely subjective. You both can be 100% correct in that department.
