Strider Knives....????

I get that you don’t like them, and I don’t blame you, but to say they are not quality knives with good ergos is kinda hilarious.

I’ve owned many and they have all been quality knives that fit my hands perfectly. That said, I don’t own anymore and even gave my last SnG away in a GAW. If you can stomach the politics of the issue then they are good knives.

I don’t think they are worth the current asking price and don’t like the drama associated with them, so I don’t buy them anymore.

It's not politics. There's no ambiguity here.

Pro-Tech, led by a well-regarded guy, Dave Wattenberg, make high-quality production and custom autos. They make an auto version of both the SNG and PT.

I believe the blade stock is slightly thinner on the Pro-Tech version than the original, but their manufacturing is exceptional. They've won the Best Investor/Collector Knife award at Blade Show the last 5 years running (at least), so they can make some pretty remarkable stuff.
Those of us who are stolen valor sensitive should remember that buying a ProTech Strider still puts money in the douche bag's pocket. Love Protech, Dave's upstanding but he makes lots of knives with no connection to bad players.

"Don't say they aren't quality knives, even though people constantly complain about lock-rock, and poor customer service." Kinda hilarious is right! :D

Anyway, those ergos don't work for everyone. Also, how awesome is a knife design when a full third of what would be useful cutting edge is instead taken by a big finger choil? I can name so many knives with better ergos and overall, I'm not sure where to begin. If they worked for you personally, that's great. For me, they sucked. I held a few at various knife shows just to see what the big deal was and left with the understanding that there wasn't any big deal there. Like, three choils, tiger stripes (for all those desk-driving middle class "operator" customers), and a handle that was designed with a ruler, I've never understood the allure of these knives from an objective standpoint. It's about as amusing as Mickey Ray's claim that all his extensive Ranger black bag operator experience drove the design of the knife. Designed while he was in jail? That's probably more truthful.

Anyway, glad you made the right call and stepped back from the brand. As is, everything to be said has been said before, so I'll bow out. Those who enjoy them, good for you. I'm not judging those who are big fans of the brand. Thankfully there are plenty of better knives and knife companies out there for us to talk about. Happy Easter!

Judged by the recent output under the "M.STRIDER" branding, I wouldn't say there are many better companies out there. Especially if you can get them for table price. Those new run SMF, SNG and PT's are wonderfully made.

Thats the bottom line for me. Micky Burger is a total charlatan and thief that has lied his way to a bright spot in knife sales by falsifying everything about his jailbird punk background. Anyone buying one of his products is putting money into his wallet. To me, that is absolute unacceptable.

Micky Burger is the worst kind of germ, one that rides on the back of those who did go and serve, some of whom never got to come back. Buying one his knives is a slap in the face of all vets present and past.

My intent in my previous post calling for forgiveness was not to forget it ever happened, by all means tell everyone what he did and avoid anything with his name on it. A sin that has been forgiven still has its consequences, you will reap what you sow. I just don't like all the name calling and hate, though he probably does deserve it to some degree.

Not trying to get into politics here, but I thought I remembered this being made a crime.

If exaggerating military service becomes a jailable offense we're going to need more jails.

Funny thing, most that would qualify have also visited our fine jail system or been involved in legal troubles for other reasons. Go figure...

I had a fantastic ZT 301 that had a detent hole drilled so it could be deassisted. It was great. I had to sell it. Couldn't keep it after finding out about all the stolen valor BS.

There now are laws on the books for misrepresenting a military record for financial gain-It may be stated a little differently, but I think that is the gist. Law passed after Strider's problem (2013)
Some may think Strider did that, I don't know. I don't buy knives based on someone's military record.

Lots of knives will do that without the scummy stolen valor support.
I agree, but Stolen valor issue aside, these knives do not appeal to me in any way.

I am not a fan of overly thick blades on folding knives from any brand. Mix that with reports of lock rock and lock slip and the ergonomics of a pineapple and you have me scratching my head as to why people are paying $400 for these knives. The fixed blades may be slightly cheaper but are nothing special.

The $15 Mora Companion I clip on and carry around the farm as a beater is a better knife in my opinion. I could buy 10 of them and a Para2 cheaper than I could buy one Strider, and probably have money left over for a Becker if I need a sharpened pry bar. All would likely outlast and outcut a single Strider, and I'm not sorry for saying that.

I've seen some much older variants that have very thick blade grinds, but what's coming out of the new shop is ground as thinly as anything out there with similar stock thickness. Enough so that some of the smooth brained Strider fans actually complain about it. The SNG and SMF designs are ergonomically wonderful for my uses and are well placed in the "Holy Trinity" of modern folders alongside the Sebenza and Socom Elite (sorry Rick).
