Strider Knives?

I would have been very happy with it if my knife came in the condition Aknife's did. But as you can see in the pictures that It didn't and even after I sent it in(and put up with 2 1/2 months of them blowing off my emails and calls) and they told me the blade was centered when I made a point to ask specifically if it was, that it came back still messed up.

Grab a spanner tool and tear it down. I found it refreshing to tear down and clean / lube everything. Plus you can then center it however you like it.

If I were in your situation I'd be pissed too, I don't blame you. People just need to get out of the state of mind thinking all Strider's have shoddy fit, finish, and function. My SNG is a newer one that I picked up on the exchange from a member here, so I'm not sure if the QC has gone up or I just got lucky. I have a feeling that QC has gone up though.

Won't that lead to blade play? I tried it before I sent it in and I recall it not working out.

It didn't for me. I've never had play after taking a knife apart. It's pretty simple to take down, and honestly the centering when closed is probably either gunk or an adjustment.

Bottom line again...strider sells as many knives as they can make.

For every hater there is a multitude in favor of the product.

Does that only work for gunk? Or is there some trick to it? Because I took it apart and cleaned it when I first got it and it didn't center the blade.

It could also be the how the pivot or the screws around the pivot are tightened. If the handle slab screw nearest the pivot is tightened oddly sometimes it can pull the blade to one side.

I have heard lots of good things about Strider knives. I have heard they are worth the money. But I will never own anything with the Strider name attached to it. I don't like or have respect for Mick Strider, and won't contribute a single penny to anything he ever does.

But I won't say his knives suck or anything like that.

The knives are very good. Solid and well designed. Of all the Strider knives I own, only had issue with one which is a sticky lock (easily fixed).

Pity the "man" and his business ethics suck.

Actually, instead of taking the whole thing apart, just loosen the pivot and the screw closes to it enough to induce a lot of blade play. Then tighten the pivot first and then the screw. Or the reverse of that if you wind up with an off centered blade again.

Hi, just wanted to say when I was going to buy my first smf on (the bay), I called Strider to ask some questions. It took about 4-5 calls throughtout the day before someone answered. However, when I finally got someone he was very nice and went on (the bay) to make sure the smf I was bidding on was not a fake. I asked if the warranty would carry over to me since I was buying it on the secondhand market, he said sure and also said it was a really good price.
Since that experience I have bought 2 more Striders (one more smf and a tanto sng) all second hand market and I am pleased. Since they where secondhand I cannot comment on the new finish. However, each of mine had a very very little scuff or two, but other than that lock up was great and fit was like the stonewashed model in the above post or better (no overlap on G-10).
I use and carry my sng on a regular basis.
I do feel sorry for those that have had so much bad experience with Striders.

Well I tried it didn't work and now the lockbar locks up but the slightest touch and it pushes and locks up more and doesn't fully lockup unless it's pushed.

I would guess that the G-10 is actually more expensive to mill out then just slapping another piece of titanium on there. It's also provides much more grip.

You think the price should be lowered because they don't ship in a $0.25 cardboard box with a piece of paper?

I honestly don't know if milling G10 is cheaper then form fitting a darn near itdentical piece of ti. And my zaan, with its textured grip, has far more grip then my SNG.

G10 is a lot softer, a lot cheaper, but again, I don't know.

Here is another way to look at it-could CRK build an SNG for less? Could strider build a zaan for 400?

And the box my zaan came in was really nice, probably a 30 cent box at least..but the box listed the many quality manufacturing awards CRK has won, and the papers made it known that this knife left the factory in perfect condition.

Which is why you rarely see a CRK thread where the knife wasn't right, and one can't say the same for strider. Yet both companies make expensive knives out of very similar materials.

And that is not the purpose of this thread. The OP was interested in Striders knives, not CRK or anything else. You personally don't like Strider knives, you've stated it several times, so why are you here posting in a Strider thread? You gave your opinion on the knives, good. You don't need to battle everyone that disagrees with you and you sure as hell don't need to try and convince everyone that CRK's are better.

Opinion isn't fact, if you think CRK's are better than Strider's then good for you, but that's not the purpose of this thread (I find myself repeating this a lot for some odd reason...). Just try to understand not everyone, especially in a Strider thread, is going to like your beloved CRK (I personally hate a lot of the designs). Again, this isn't a debate between Strider and CRK, it's a thread asking about Strider knives.
Didn't I already explain to you why your stance is both illogical and counterproductive?

I get it, you like Strider, and you get hurt feelings when other people don't. Please, say what you feel about the product and keep it relevant to the thread. This crap is unnecessary and off topic.
