Strider PT. 30 disappointing minutes.

2mm early lock, fine with me. I like to spend time to wear down my folders.

Becomes 5mm after you pull on blade, I'm not too satisfied with that much give/flex on it. That is a world of a difference and the folder should be structurally sound to resist flex by moderate pulling.

That said, how much pull did you exert if I might ask?

So, Strider is full of a bunch of arrogant people who don't value their customers. That is good to know.
Got it. Shipped in a ziplock bag? WTF?

Not quite. Strider never made any claims or pretenses that their knives are "CNC milled to 1/1,000,000,000,000,000th of a fraction of a millimeter" or any other such junk. (Not that there's anything at all wrong with a precision-made knife).

They never promised perfection so you can't go expecting it.

They are damned fine knives and if you are going to USE the thing HARD as it was intended, what does it matter if its off a 100,000th of an inch here and there or whatever?

Truth is, it doesn't matter; it does not affect the FUNCTIONALITY of the knife one bit.

What I was trying to express is that Strider doesn't have time to put up with the calls of, "Oh, I scratched my knife while cutting a cardboard box and how long will it take you to refinish it and no I don't want to pay anything because it should be covered under warranty" type calls.

The Strider crew has made it excessively clear to anyone who knows anything about them that they get a lot of calls like that and simply have an extremely low tolerance for them.

I can't blame them as I feel the same way. Basically, don't be a dick to them and they will treat you just fine.

I go to Grand Prairie Knives every Saturday to look at the Knife porn and talk to all the crew that work there. I handled every PT that they received from Strider before I bought my PT from them. I am not speaking for Gpknives, but I do know your PT is on PAR with all Strider's. If it is not what you like I am sure if you email or call Gpknives they will go out of their way to make it right, If you still want the PT the Strider crew will also make it right no matter how hard you use it or break it they will fix it. All Strider's come in a Zip lock baggy, its another of their "Trade Marks"

The birth of each of my sons cost me a couple thou , guess what , no flippin instructions there either. ;)

A knife is like anything else , if you plan to use it , its gonna get scuffed , if that worries you , maybe ya shouldn't carry any knife.

If I ever drop $400 on a knife, that thing better be friggin perfect.
No lame excuses about "uber tough tactical tank-chopping action" as the reason why they couldn't finish out the tooling marks(I KNOW how easy that is, having worked mould-making for 2.5 years after the 2 years at college for the same).
I will NOT accept off-center blades and scratches BEFORE I use it when paying that much of my hard earned money, nor would I expect anyone else to either.
If I could surface grind to within 0.0001 with my limited machining experience, Strider can do better for the money they charge.
I'll cut them some slack when the SNG drops in price to $250(I'd even get one then, after inspecting it to make sure it is up to MY standards for a $250 knife).

You are VERY wrong about your assesment of the Strider guys!! They are good guys, and make a heckuva knife.

So what it comes in a ziplock bag.

Princess! :p

Boxes are more useful for knife collectors & Strider markets their knives towards users. As for instructions, well there aren't any. I guess the people at Strider are going on the idea that someone spending $300 on a knife has owned knives before & understands how they work. I've got a Winchester Model 70 on layaway at a Pawnshop that won't be coming with instructions - but at $350 I'm not complaining.

As for the early lock-up, as others have mentioned, that's a good thing for a frame-lock. As you use it, the lock will break-in and start to engage more & more so an early lock-up is good.

Get out there and use it hard before you dismiss Strider knives. Another option is that you could contact GP Knives and see what they will do to alleviate your concerns. If they are unable to do anything, then contact Strider knives.

The lock-up part sounds good. I DO like it to lock up early when I buy it.

I don't pretend to know half what you guys know about knives or Strider.
Maybe when I do know alot more I won't give a shiite about boxes or the CS dept.

then why make inflammatory statements about same?

their cs is very good, i've called several times and sent in a couple folders. always polite and helpful.

ive owned many, and they have never come in any "stiderized" wrapping or packaging.

opinions vary regarding the company, but most know what they are buying before they buy.

OP... It appears that you have not done your homework... your knife is just as the good lord intended.

ive seen others post that "they don't like bs or whiners", but im not sure what that means.

like i said, everyone ive ever talked to there was more than helpful. when i spoke to the guys at the plaza cutlery show strider table, they were also very polite and answered all my knife geek questions (even though i only bought a shirt).

w/o getting into the whole "mick" thing, i will say it speaks highly of their company if dan delevan (who owns plaza) would consider them to be friends. dan and plaza cutlery are great to deal with.

I don't know squat about Strider knives, but I can see where the OP would have been a little surprised to order a higher end knife and have it show up in a sandwich baggie...... I've grown to not like boxes though. Its just more crap to have laying around.

Instructions ? I don't know, most knives seem perrty simple, even for a hayseed like me. I can honestly say, all the knives I have bought that did come with paperwork, I've never looked at it.

I agree with what is written. Nice to read the various perspective in BF. I particularly agree with stabman for now but I also agree with the fact that I need to get myself a strider before I post my own views.

The fit and finish is part of what keeps me from owning one, so it shows that they are not for everybody. I just focus on something else.
