Strider SMF for hard use tasks

speaking about g10 ,CS Lawman and Recon doesnt have steel liners at all and both VERY strong knifes

I haven't gotten anything over $250 so far, but I've definitely been considering an SMF, probably the lego version, one thing that holds me back though (same for CRK, and one reason I like Hinderer's, though I prefer the FFG of the SMF) is the S30V while its a great steel, and I've heard Strider does an especially great job on the HT, its just so common, I think an SMF in CPM-3V would be pretty awesome.

Don't worry about the half cocked idiots that come around trying to derail threads. It's your post and you asked a reasonable question. You have the right to expect people to give reasonable and pertinent answers.

Gee. Good thing we don't have any of THESE around here.
Didn't try to derail anything. I was eating and obviously missed the part where the OP says he had already purchased an SMF.
Again, sorry if I offended anybody.
Congrats on your purchase. It is definitely a knife you should enjoy!

Getting back to good manners is nice, but I don't think the question about what knives are referred to in the statement below has been answered. I'm interested in which knives were intended. The question can be answered (and read) without needing to start a flame-fest.

The talk was about getting out of a car trunk or something ridiculous like that. Most tools you don't need on your person 24/7.
Funny but my weakest folder is tougher than your strongest Strider :D
IMHO you pay for hype with Strider, not for quality. Many quality issues have been reported with Striders. I've had issues with Striders myself (bad F&F, bladeplay and dull edges out of the box). Don't have ANY Striders anymore. Would not buy one even for half the price. Sorry don't mean to be bashing just trying to express what I learned from my experiences with Strider knives.
Furthermore, I want to see you stab your strider into a monitor or a window, without seriously damaging the knife.

I stabbed my SnG I into a old laptop monitor. I believe those things are every bit as tough as a glass monitor. It took a couple try's and I had to hit it pretty freaking hard to pierce it but it did and guess what? IT WAS FINE!

Oh yeah, look at the avatar. I forgot the pic is there.

O.o

I just realized the Typo. I meant my weakest FIXED BLADE. not folder.
My flimsiest fixed blade is the Izula. (actually I've got a Ramora, but c'mon).
You think your SMF is a tougher knife?! Don't think so.
A lap top monitor is easy stuff compared to those old school bubble ones :D

That makes more sense, thanks.

Fixed blades are not all created equal, and there's often less to a FB than meets the eye, but I appreciate the clarification. :)

I don't really think that anyone is saying that their strider is stronger than a fixed blade. If they have then I missed it. Its an absurd notion to think that any folder would be as strong as a comparably sized fixed blade. The fact remains though that striders are extremely tough folders. It isnt as if they are the end all be all of tough folding knives but to discount their place among their contemporarys is a mistake IMO. The PT that i have has never failed me when put to task and that seems to be the general consensus from people who have used their striders.

If you took offense to my earlier post then please reflect upon your previous posts where you admittedly overlooked or misread pertinent information and made typos that seemed like you were running off at the mouth.

Cheers!
Brandon

Like 90+% of 4X4's never go off road or used for there intended purposes. I have to believe ( me included when I drop $600 on a Strider) that these are tough looking show knives. Nothing makes me believe they are any stronger then other quality knives in there class. Most that have a $600 knife like this buy it for its looks, quality and second type of cool that Strider brand has developed as a mythos around itself, kudos Mick!

Hard use knives are ones meant to be ugly and get beat on with batons. Tactical knives sit in our pockets being cool like Harley's in front of Bars.

Your strongest fixed blade isn't as strong as the flimsiest jackhammer on a construction site. You think your Izula can go through more conrete? It makes no sense to compare apples to oranges. People have their reasons for choosing a folder over a fixed blade.

I'm also guessing you haven't seen this (not my pic):

The SmF is an extremely strong hard use folder, they are ment to be used and used hard.

It's no fixed blade, but if you break an SmF you really did something.

They are user knives that you can beat the heck out of and they can take it.

Must have been a Blue Screen of Death.

Like those over priced wimpy Hummer H1's. How dare they suggest they are any tougher than a Toyota Rav4.;)

Think of it this way....If Strider knives where not all that and more,...why would such great companies like Buck and Kershaw (Zero Tolerance) do a collaboration with Strider??? And the knives they did a collaboration with are their top tier knives in their line up. ie....ZT0300 series..

Wow, I wonder if I could do that with my XM-18:eek:.

Strider - "You can kill your monitor with it!"
Catchy!

I wonder how the tip of that knife looks after doing that.

Actually the SMF has a pretty thick tip. i think it would be fine.

And regarding another poster's question regarding the XM-18, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have a problem. I don't suggest trying it, but hey that is up to you.

When I did the laptop in my avatar it blunted the tip. I also stabbed my XM-18 into it but it wouldn't stick due to how heavy it is and how thick the spanto tip is. The XM-18's tip suffered the same slightly blunted tip. IMO a fixed blade would have a dull tip too. Neither knife was damaged other than it didn't have a needle point on it anymore.
