Strider SMF for hard use tasks

Comparing a folder to a fixed blade is not something i ever do. Taking a knife out and beating the hell out of it just because you can is nuts imho. Sure i can make tent stakes like the video but why put more wear on a knife when you could just cut at an angle and save one less cut down the road. Using a knife is about technique not sheer brawn. Sure i will baton through crap with my ESEE but it is a fixed blade and yes there are safe ways to baton through wood with even a SAK but takes a little education on the users part. Knifemakers are imho artists that make sharp things, some betterr than others. Not to derail the thread but personally..i would not ever do business with strider and this is just due to military/integrity issues that i have. I have handled some of their knives and in their own right are very nice. Fit and finish is nowhere near a sebenza or xm18 and although most people would say a sebenza cant do the same as a strider, its beacause most people who own sebenza wont. If you want a folder that is the ultimate in coming close to strength then go get an extrema ratio. These are tools to cut with. 99% of people out there will never be in a tacticool situation...and myself and most of the guys i know would pick something like an esee3 or 4 if this shtf.

I do not think there would be any rationale behind buying a Strider knife. So why to waste time looking for it? :)
It is an emotional choice.

Have to disagree with you there, Poez.

What might the rationale be? Why, collecting of course. Perhaps it's a good investment. And the feel..... oh, the feel.............. Are those all emotional choices?

The CS American Lawman?
I doubt the blade will hold up as well against a stab into a computer monitor, but I'm pretty sure the handles and lock would hold up very well:thumbup:.

here is CS Recon , aus8 .

Since my original post early on in this thread, I picked up a second SmF in S110V blade steel.

I like them, do not regret the purchases, and am not afraid to use either of my SmF's hard.

Whether or not they are worth the money is subjective as you can see by the posts in this thread.

I think Jim shows some pretty good hard use in his videos.

A knife is meant to be used. If you're buying it to go in a safe then it's just art. I love striders.....but then I love all knives. However, with that being said, I love the fit and feel of striders and, while I appreciate the price issue, find them to be the perfect instrument in my hand when needed.......and isn't that the real question. Confidence in your equipment at any time is the key to success and if that's low dollars or high dollars doesn't really matter if you can afford it and enjoy it. Period.

"Its better to have it and not need it...
I love the design; a single milled G10 handle slab, nut and bolt hardware and a huge pivot screw, of the Strider folder. It's rock solid. And Strider's HT, makes this knife a joy to use. It will cut for a long time.
