Strider SnG... May pull the Trigger. Thoughts?

Buy the knife, not the internet hype.
That is usually my philosophy. my one purchase or even if I made 20 purchases will not make or break the company so all I can gain is a nice, usable knife.

I happen to have a few knives with me today at work so I took a quick picture so you can get an idea of how the SnG compares with some other popular knives size wise.

That picture is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks very much! I have or have had a few of those so its a perfect comparison. The SnG is definitely a good size. BTW, do you normally have that many at WORK?! That's awesome! haha

Honestly, I'm not sure there is one that is regular production. Maybe a Lion Steel SR-1 Ti but those aren't small knives. Most other options could very well be custom or mid-tech and will not be much cheaper and possibly more, except the 030X series ZT. But those are heavier by far than an SNG and they're pretty big. If you can find a NIB 0551 they are damned nice but aren't in production anymore and the 0550/560/561 aren't available yet. The Elmax on the 0551 is a fine steel too and I would like to see more Elmax in the availability stream in general but today, it's few and far between. The Lion Spy is supposed to be Elmax and it's due out in a month or so.
Have an 0561 on pre-order ;) So far, the SnG seems to be a good fit. Just seems like it'd be the best carry knife in the price range.

Nice! I wish I could afford both but word on the street is eventually we'll be seeing some after market scales so I think I'll be going that route. Hoping for carbon fiber :D

Well be assured the costs hurt sometimes but I do it anyway for a few knives ;) We all know that feeling, I'm sure . . .

If you want a SNG you should buy it. I had been close several times but had always bought something different. I saw the one that I wanted in the FS section a couple weeks ago for a great deal and finally bought one. Don't regret it one bit. The sound of the lock bar when opening just screams tough :)

Recently got an SnG GG! I like it! I cant say I like it more than my Sebs! I dont think they should be in the same price range as Sebs! I feel like Im getting alot more knife when I get a Seb! I like my 0551 better! Seems tougher and fits hand better! To me Striders should be priced more like the higher end ZT's! Dont think i ll be buying another Strider. Plus it still bothers me buying a product from someone who was misleading about their military careers!!! I hate when people claim to have been in spec ops!! I havent seen proof of this as far as Duane or Mick goes so perhaps it is wrong of me to write this?! CR all day!!!

Hey, at least you can criticize the knives now without Mickey telling you that you are a nobody who can lick his so and so... :)

Character is always first - regardless of hype or how cool a knife is

Love my SMF, I say go big. Just ordered my first sabenza so we'll see if that goes into EDC for me. I like the SNG just never saw the point of going smaller when the SMF is so comfy to choke up on. Ether way the great thing is if its not your cup of tea easy to sell, keep value well.

Striders are amazing knives, and with that being said BUY IT! worst case scenario you can get what you bought it for easily. I love my striders.... i currently have 3 SMF's, and an SLCC with the complete numbered set of the RW series coming soon (RW-1 SMF tanto, RW-2 is a tanto fixed, RW-3 is a big chopper)
I personally have big hands and like the SMF more due to the heft. and i will be buying the Terzuola/Strider Collab when it comes out Dec/Jan!
I also recommend the Usual Suspect Network as a forum if you get into striders!!

Striders are definitely excellent knives, but also definitely overpriced. There's really no reason why it should cost any more than $200-250 for a SNG or SMF.

No problem. Normally I don't have that many knives at work. You just happen to catch me on a good day. I have a close friend that is headed to Iraq for three months to help get the locals squared away on maintaining their helicopter fleet and he was trying to decide what knife he should buy for the trip. I brought some of my "hard use" type folders for him to fondle before he decides what to buy.

I'll definitely look into that forum. And resale is one of the reasons I'm not terribly worried about a Strider. They get snatched up pretty quick. Thanks to everyone else as well for the replies so far. Anybody know where I might be able to get some after market scales for either the SnG of SMF? Just wondering in case the color I want isn't available.

PM "peter r" here on Bladeforums. It's possible he may make scales for some Striders but not 100% sure. He does super nice work. He's a Knifemaker and materials supplier . . .

Well, broke down just a bit ago and placed my order for a brown SnG with flamed ti and a striped blade! Decided the SnG would be a good size based on the picture comparison. Hopefully, I'll have it by Friday this week. Thanks to everyone for your help. Anyone else have a brown SnG? is it more like a tan color in person or a "dark earth" tone?

Thanks very much! I plan to put it to good use. Might be the first knife other than my Para 2 to kick my Sebenza out of my pocket.

Haha I have a feeling it will. Lately, the Sebenza has been back in my pocket, but that will change.
