This was an awesome post, thank you (and the other veterans here like Shinyedges) for your service.

Thanks sirs
Lycoa No were not diferent then anyone else but like others have said we at one point took the oath of enlistment and have made many sacrifices for this country and the freedoms we all enjoy. I wasn't a bad ass seal or ranger but I was involved in 2 diferent combat theaters and i know the feeling of being sent half way around the world and being separated from family and loved ones. So I guess those who have served see things a little diferent.

As a veteran I buy the best equipment to suit my needs. I dont know anything about the owner of colt, trijicon, kimber, eotech, sig or surefire, the guy who makes my razor blades, paper towels or I dont know 1/1000th of what I should about who pays my paycheck, the government. Ive heard they have some real crooks working there.
If energizer and duracell get into a political pissing match, lie, cheat, steal, ill still buy batteries, though I couldnt tell you with out checking which brand is in the cabinet.

Point is, the die hards probably wouldnt buy from the other brand no matter what sweetheart was running it, and the moderates will make up their own mind through testing. Some guys will trash talk them all. Ive owned a few emersons, they didnt fit my needs. I still want a v-ground commander and 7 but just keep putting them on the back burner. Ive probably owned 25 striders. Im currently carrying my very first one, have a backup in the safe and the rest have moved on. Nothing political influencing that, I went through a ton of knives and carry what works best for me.

I love my SMF GG. Drop point, frame lock, CPM S-30V, it all works for me. Is the blade a little thick for nice slicing? Yeah..but I didnt say I was done trying either.

Every company uses add hype. Some chop up hams, some claim hard use, some pretend to be your drinking buddy. Honestly I dont think being SF or the like, in any way qualifies you to be a good knifemaker. I didnt know about knifemaker drama when I began collecting when I was younger and I try to not get too involved now. I just want good toys.

Great post lefty!!!!

I haven't bought an Emerson yet because I am still leery about their spotty QC. Also, their price isn't really justified by some of their material choices. They could really improve things by simple changes such as using CPM154 and DLC coatings rather than 154CM and black oxide.

As far as Strider, the Protech autos are very cool but they could be improved in so many ways to even begin to justify their $400 price tag (titanium frame, better steel etc). As to the other issues, well let me just say that if I drove by the Strider factory and saw it engulfed in flames I probably would keep driving...

Post of the thread.

Owned a SnG, handled and sharpened several Emersons. Would take the Strider any day over the Emerson, but only at a good used price. Wouldn't pay new prices for one.
