Strider vs Sebenza

Mr. Reeve might act like a grouchy old man but at least the man himself is willing to talk with you for an extended period of time and discuss the issues at hand. The same cannot be said for many other companies.

And you can make such sweeping assumptions how? Give it a rest already.

You brought it up kawr. How can you call Mr. Reeve a grouchy old man in one sentence and then say lay off in the next? I don't get it and plz don't explain it. I just agreed with you.

I'm not going to go into any details at all. My experience with Mr. Reeve was private but we disagreed big time on something okay? I still carry either a Spyderco Military, Hinderer XM, or a Sebenza in my EDC though, so you see I like my CRK knife! ;)

Owning a whopping one Strider, you aren't exactly an expert on the subject. If your strider wasn't up to snuff, then they would have fixed it for you. You think every CRK that leaves the factory is perfect? Please.
...give me a moment while I peel my palm from my face.

So, paying $400+ dollars for a so-called high end knife that shows up with staggeringly low fit and finish, especially compared to my other $400+ knives does not qualify me to have an opinion or give feedback?

I did my research and paid my money for the knife and it was far below my standards for the price. I've been to shows and handled others, as well. While not all of them had blade play, all of them had poor fit and finish compared to a Sebenza made of the same materials and costing the same price.

Why, Oh why would I continue to buy Strider folders after what I had experienced? For additional ammunition when dealing with fanboys on the internet? Do you realize how ridiculous that notion sounds? Sorry, my opinion stands.

I have and like both; strider is nowhere near sebenza in tolerances, the blade wiggles slightly (i will send it in eventually) but with my lifestyle, i use the strider as a go into the woods beat the crap out of knife, and the sebenza for at work, home, or any time i am not in the boonies. I still find myself going back to good old trusty Rat-1 from time to time:)

Nathan L - I forgot about this thread. W/o re-reading, did you buy one of the folders? I would suggest the Sebenza even though I had some problems with one of four that I've purchased.

I would really love to get an SMF myself but the lack of a liner on the non-locking side, some really ugly pictures of lock interface problems, wiggle, vertical blade play, lack of communication from the maker when something arises, all are reasons that I'll never own one. Unless I get picked in a give-away by a rich member who's conducting one. :D

Life's to darn short for headaches, especially self inflicted ones. Knowing all of these issues are common, perhaps the norm for Strider folders - I'm a little too easily p*ssed off when I drop $500+ for a knife that arrives with stupid mistakes in it's construction. The hard use folder niche is getting more additions. Every time I spend some time here reading here I bump into really nice folders that are tough as nails.

Are they Striders? No. Do they looks as cool? Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Do they come with all of the Strider issues? In most cases, I'd guess - probably not. I'd get my hands on both and settle the issue before buying or get the Sebenza.

have you not seen the videos of duayne dwyer? lol he talks forever about everything they do.

Get a $400 fixed blade:thumbup:, I guarantee you it won't wiggle;).

Neither will a $30 dollar fixed blade:D. After experiencing a sebenza i don't see it logical to buy a knife that cost just as much or more that does not compare in tolerances and fit and finish, i am talking about striders, based on all I've heard about their build quality issues why would i make that costly decision to buy one, much cheaper knives don't have those issues like blade play and fast wearing lockbars, an example of a good cheaper knife with none of those issues is a gayle bradley or ZT knife if you want something closer to a strider. Striders are too gimmicky for my taste's anyway, and the blade is too thick to be practical for my uses. To each his own though.

No offense but thats just dumb. Any knifemaker will talk to you if you go meet them in person. Mr. Reeve will make time to pick up the phone if you call. I highly doubt you can say the same for Strider, at least from my experience. The forums are over saturated with info on both of these companies and so it comes down to the consumer to take that all in and decide what they want at this point.

no i have not gotten either yet i was in the checkout process with a sebenza when i started wondering about the s35vn steel, dose anyone have any experiance with s35vn. I feel like it should be good if Chris Reeve is using it, but $400 is not just pocket change and i want to be sure. Any help would be appriciated.

I hear you. It's definitely hard to shell out the $410 for the Sebenza but my daughter bought me one as a gift and I've sold off all of my Sebenzas except that one. They're very nice but I prefer Hinderer XM18's & 24's. Other than that I'm fine with my Spyderco Military, BM 710, Zero Tolerance and other production knives in that $125 range. :)

I have used it a good bit lately. A little bit better edge retention, but it's hardly noticeable. Will roll before chipping, but it doesn't roll readily. It's a great steel.

Thank you, that answers that question.
