Hello everyone, I was asked how I went about stripping my NMFSH CG in another thread:

That is one proffesional satin you got there, it would be very nice if you posted pics of how you did it, did you slightly sand it?

Edit if you want the logo after you strip you should etch it first! I use PCB etchant from radio shack.

Well here is what I done, but I will say again, I can't take much credit! Busse done all the real work, these are absolutely beautiful combat grade blades!

Prep is very easy, I've found out if I warm the blade just a little above room temp the stripper works much faster. I warm the entire knife with a heat gun until its warm to the touch, think "knife sitting in the sun warm"

I then lay the knife in a aluminum pan ( because that's what I can use without the wife being able to tell I used it  ) :D and pour the Zip-Strip over the entire blade. It usually only takes a couple minutes for the coating to bubble. I use a scrapper to gently scrape the coating away.

Once I have the coating scraped off as good as I can with the scrapper I take the pan with the knife to the laundry tub and rinse it with warm water. Then I use a red scotch bright to to gently buff the rest of the little bits of coating off.

All together I had about twenty minutes in this, well worth it to me, I love nekid INFI! :D

Here's what I started with, first day I got it, had to beat the coating off a little.

Great review DaKruiser my only comment would be to be safe when using stripper. I was rinsing a blade in warm water once and the steam carried the stripper fumes up and it can be really nasty if you breath them in :( :barf: :).

Thanks again DaKruiser ! Great pics!

DaKruiser thanks a lot...The knives are fantastic underneath the coat, I was about to suggest to strip it once the coat looks beaten up... and you certainly used it in a day...

Thanks again...hopefully some more people do it as well and keep this post going.

Yes Sir, thank you for adding that! You should definatly be in a well ventilated area and stay away from the steam/vapors.

The slight scratches are from the Scotchbrite I assume?

Yes, I've not tried any Flitz or Mothers mag polish yet to see if it could polish them out a little. I'll pick some up and give it a try.

Looks great...another tip is to use a plastic scraper to get the coating/stripper off instead of metal to help minimize any scratching.

Looking good.

The zip strip doesn't hurt the micarta at all? I know you try to keep it off of em but some contact is unavoidable.Sorry for the necro, but the coating is wearing fast and I wanted it naked from the get go...

Does the zip strip harm g10? if so, how do you apply it carefully around the scales and protect the scales?

I get the Zip Strip everywhere! It's not harmed my G10 or micarta at all as far as I can tell, looks like the day I got it.

I never did use any polish on mine, I use em to much, they get a washing every now and then and that's about it. :D
