Stripped INFI

Well mine's going to get stripped when I get home now. I wonder if they all look that good under the coating?

So my NMFSH has been soaking in Klean Strip for about 20 minutes. Not really doing mutch....

Ok, so after a half hour the coaing is loosining. This coating is tough. But the steel under it it peaking and looks awesome.

Did you put it on nice and thick? When I did my FBM it started coming off quick. I did do a second app on some tougher areas.

Hmmm...I'm one of those that generally operates on the principle, "don't try to fix it if it ain't broke". But that is sweet. Is it possible to remove the scales, and soak it in the stripper? (Sorry for the stupid question. :o)

Yeah, I usually just put 'em in a bath of stripper and let 'em sit for 20 min. or so. I noticed that the new coatings are a lot tougher than the older stuff and it also depends on the color. My NMFSH took a 1 1/2 days to get where I wanted it.

I used the gel clean strip. Slathered it on and let it sit after warming the blade in very hot water. After about 30 minutes it started to loosen the top layer. After 2 more coats and some elbow grease it was naked. The finish underneath looked like they just bead blasted a LE blank. Very clean and no grind marks. I'll post pics tonight. Right now I'm going to go beat the crap out of it.

FWIW I used pressed plastic shims to scrape the finish off after letting the klean strip soak in. They are the perfect firmness to scrape but not hard enough to scratch the finish like using a scotch bright and they are cheap/disposable.

AWESOME !!! LOVE THEM STRIPPED!!! anyone ever strip a RAT?

May just have a project tomorrow!!:D

I used a putty knife to remove the finish when it loosened. I actually planed to use plastic scrapers we used when I built water tanks. Look just like a plastic razor blade. Couldn't find em at the store tho. Next time I'll try the plastic wedges. That's a nice tip.

that would be great!

Yep, my son and I stripped his R9, it turned out great too!

Ran to the shed after reading this, and stripped my RMD and my RS. The upside? SR-101 looks great naked too. The rodent solution coating was much tougher to get off, and the bare blade needs more attention than the ratmandu to buff out grind marks. The downside? A little scrubbing with a scotch pad after stripping and both of my Swamp Rats are now logo-less. Take home message? At least for Busse's cousins from the Swamp, if you want the logo to remain on the blade, etch it in before you strip.

Do you think if I sent them back to the Swamp they'd re-logo?

Dang that sucks..yeah you gotta etch them before. I'm sure you can send them back in and have the logo put back on for next to nothing.
