Stripped INFI

I decided to continue to remove the stuff that was adhered to the metal...

I bought a wire wheel for the grinder and it made short work of the leftovers! After cleaning it up with some 150 and 400 grit wet sanding, I am content with the finished product. It looks a lot like pewter.

Tooling marks! Looks amazing!

Wow! That looks awesome!

Thanks guys! I'll be giving it the beans later on today on the property. Trails need clearing!

Thanks to Crouchingrooster I got a smoking hot deal on a DSSF! I decided I'd make a great Busse to practice my stipping. I used Klean Strip and a plastic bristle brush followed by a WD40/ Never Dull wipe down. It only took a few minutes to do and the infi underneath was awesome! Please note my scales did lighten up but, after the WD were back to normal.

Yeah, sometimes you get lucky with a stripped blade and the bare steel looks really good ... and then there are some, like the SY 1311 I just stripped, that have really fugly tool marks. No regrets, it's a user.

Did the NMFSH this evening. Turned out really nice. No tool marks and its ready to get beat some more.

Why not just take a belt sander to the 1311 and get rid of the tool marks?

I use the HF 1x30. Great for convexing, but you can't grind flat against the platen because the blade will chatter badly. I would have to take off a lot of metal for the convex curve to reach these marks. Eventually I'll get some pics up. It's really weird, as one side of the blade has completely different grind marks than the other side, as though two different machines or techniques were used.

I don't hang with the puppies, have there been many pics over there of stripped 1311s?

If the belt sander is a no-go for cleaning up the blade, you could always do it by hand with a sanding block. It would definitely take longer, but shouldn't take too long though.

I don't remember seeing any stripped 1311's on there, but I did see a ghetto satin one that sold on the exchange here recently. I think Knifehunter snagged it if I'm remembering correctly?

I'm actually considering stripping my 1311 and doing a regrind to a full convex from edge to spine, I started a thread discussing this at the Yard if you wanted to take a look at it.

Full Convex 1311?

The first Busse that I stripped, my Ruck, was done by hand. Haven't got the patience to do that again.

I picked this LMRS up awhile back in a trade and finally got around to taking some photos of it. It started out as sage but after some stripping and a whole lot of hand polishing here's the results:

hi everybody
Nice finish on the fbm, this practice does not damage does it handle
